Lithium Ion Battery option!

I am considering changing my batteries to 1 Lithium Ion: I assume I will need to research my charging system comparability. Do any of my MOC friends have any thoughts on this matter. I truly need some advice. I only dry camp occasionally and rely on my generator until "Gen off hours, 8:00 till 8:00. I would like to at least get through the evenings and night without my generator. I only run the 12 volt system with no inverter. Our TV in bedroom is 12 volt and run that till midnight or so? Your thoughts, experience and or opinions? Thanks in advance !

There are some benefits of the Lit Ions but for what your needs are you would be better suited to get 2 - high quality AGM's that would give you 200 or better Amp hours and would not need any special charge controller, etc. You would end up spending less than half of what that Lit Ion battery will cost.

Based on the description of your needs, only occasional dry-camping, and plus you have a generator, not sure the investment is worth the cost. I would think you could get through the evening hours with a regular house battery. We can go a couple of days dry-camping with a standard battery. Certainly would be nice to have all that excess capacity.

if anything, just add a second 12 volt battery.

Until we went solar we had two type 27's and did exactly what you are saying you want to do. We were never short of power but all our lights are converted to LED. As soon as an inverter arrived on the scene that changed.

Not a specific answer to your question, but if you go solar all your problems will be over.

While LI sounds interesting I'd still stick with a couple 6v Trojans or 2 12v batteries at a fraction of the cost. Keeping it simple and standard may paid off if/when something in the 12v system goes south.

I say go for it. It's not the money. You have fun with new stuff like to experiment and they are top of the line. Go for it.

Thank you! I do like new stuff. The main reason I like these Ion batteries, was the long service life. I feel like I am always replacing batteries on my toys? Great info everyone. Thanks again.
