Generator connections

I have the EMS LCHW-50 made by Progressive Industries. Has any one used this surge protector with a Honda generator EU 2000I. I tried to use my generator this past weekend and the digital readout on the surge protector said I had an open ground and the blades would not close to allow power into my panel. I called the manufacturer at Progressive and the tech told me to bond the ground and the neutural together at my adaptor where it plugs into the generator. Has any one found an adaptor that will work in this situation for this surge protector? He told me that there is a bypass in the EMS protector. The problem I see with that is I'd have to take off the cover and plug in the bypass everytime I want to use the generator.
Thanks in advance as I will appreciate any help.

Is the EMS built in?? I had the same situation but resolved it a little differently. I jumped the ground and the neutral together in the Iota smart-switch when I added a front plug for the generator. If you are using the generator on the OEM rear plug, then I would suggest making a short pig-tail type device and jump the wires together at one of the plugs and use the pigtail for the generator only. It should be a relatively cheap fix provided that you keep the dedicated generator pig-tail separate. Let me know what you think or if you need additional help.
