Strange place for a leak

Hi all, 2011 Mountaineer 295RKD here. We’ve discovered a strange wet spot in the carpet that we can’t locate the source of. It’s right at the edge of the linoleum in the entry on the carpet in the living room. It’s not a big spot, but it’s location doesn’t make sense.

Any ideas? I’ve attached a picture of the spot.

Thank you for your help!

Here’s a wider picture. The floor right in front of the fuse panel is also slightly damp. Nowhere else is at all. Sorry for the sideways picture.

Condensation? Is the ceiling wet directly above?
Maybe a pipe with a pinhole under the floor?

Ceiling is dry. We thought condensation maybe, but doesn’t seem to be that either. Trying to determine what pipes are underneath the carpet there.

Where is your anti-siphon valve for the black tank flush. Possibly in the wall above maybe behind the shower?

How about the window in the door or the seal around the door? Water leaks in and runs across the tile and sticks in the rug.

If this link is correct

Your bathroom is behind the cabinet/wall. Can you look behind the basement wall for any leaks back there??
I'm guessing there could also be vent pipes in that wall going through the ceiling??

Here is a floor plan - and I think the arrow points to the wet spot.
The brochure floor plan did not show vinyl floor by the door so I sketched it in.

Yes, that’s the floor plan and that’s where our leak is. Doesn’t appear to be the door or the window in the door. There was some water in the basement...we thought that was coming from a poor seal on one of the basement doors, so we fixed that and then checked again and there’s water there again. Not sure if it’s something in the wall between the bathroom and the tv cabinet. Can’t really tell.

My bet is on the water line from the convenience center. Drop the bottom a bit and shine a light in and see what is there at the leaking spot. Since you have water in the basement, it would seem logical that the line is leaking and spraying the flooring.
Good luck.

1. Has it rained? Does it show up after it rains? Possible vent leak.
2. Does it show up after you clean your blackwater tank? Possible leaky anti siphon valve in the wall on some models. If it is not under your bathroom sink it could be in the wall. When you run the blackwater flush you will hear it buzz.
3. If it shows up randomly possible freshwater pipe leak in the walls. Fill your freshwater tank. Disconnect your city water. Use your water pump. If it cycles occasionally for no apparent reason you probably have a leak somewhere in your freshwater pipes.
You will need to take down your basement walls and have a good look with an inspection mirror or a borescope.

To control it when pushing it up walls tape it to some romex electrical wire.

It could well be the anti siphon valve... Cheap plastic crap that most have to replace with a good quality brass unit or take it out of the system all together and install a check valve at the convenience centre.

Wanted to say thank you for all of the help and suggestions! We’ve been able to narrow it down to either a leak in the basement door seals letting in a LOT of water during all the rain we’ve been having (along with driving winds), or our anti siphon valve, which we will check tomorrow when we drain the tank. Thankfully the water has not caused any damage or mold and we got it dried out, so that’s a plus.

Thank you again for all the help!

A friend had that floor plan and his leak was the Black tank anti-siphon valve behind the shower faucet in the wall and the water ran slightly toward door like yours. Took faucet off the wall and he had just enough wiggle room to inspect and find leak. We relocated the valve down into basement area and all was good again. Good luck.

I have a 295RK (2012)

The last time it rained I had a small leak in the fantastic fan right over that spot. I would start there and work your way down. Good luck finding the problem

I have a leak in my tank flush system that made a wet spot there when I flushed my tanks. Consider that possibility.

We have a 2010 Mountaineer 326RLT. The first year we owned it we had flushed the tanks about 4 times and found water dripping from the pipes that go from the garage up into the bathroom sink. Was dripping into the garage. I had been leaving the black tank flush connected with the valve shut off after draining the black tank. Dealer had me disconnect the 3 foot hose I had connected to the black tank flush as soon as I was done flushing. Dripping stopped. He surmised that as the water pressure decreased in the hose, water seaped around the seal that is normally pushed closed with pressure in the anti-siphon valve. As the pressure decreased, water was allowed to bypass the valve and leak into the garage. By disconnecting the hose as soon as I was done, water was drained out the hose instead into the garage. He said the valve is designed so that if water backs up from the black tank into the hose towards the anti-siphon valve, it is discharged into the garage. When you connect the backflush and run water, it pushes the spring loaded valve in the anti-siphon valve up closing off the route to the garage so that water runs into the black tank. As this water pressure decreases when you turn it off, and the spring loaded valve starts to fall back down, some water seaps around it into the garage. It isn't much but enough to be noticable after a few rinses.

Once I started disconnecting my hose to the black tank flush as soon as I was finished rinsing the tank, I had no leaks. That was 10 years ago. No leaks since. I hung a small plastic paint bucket on that elbow in the garage that goes up into the bathroom so that if i have any more leaks it goes into the bucket first.
