AC Question

How often should the covers on the roof AC's be removed and the interior cleaned or is this something that even needs to be addressed.
3100 RL equipped with 15 and 13K AC's. two years old, have not been around Cottonwoods.;>)
Thanks

I'm sure Ozz will be along to advise you. He is the resident professional HVAC member.

I do it once a year. very easy to do. I clean out leaves and twigs then rinse with hose and use compressor to clean fins.

We do once a year as well. Often, nothing to clean up. Once in a while, a drain hole plug

Chuck, my take on this is the same as my home central air outside unit. Every 2-3 years I give it a good rinse.

I had my Newmar for 6 years, fulltimmed in it and maybe cleaned it once. Now if you spend a lot of time in Nebraska in the cottonwood trees, that is different.

One thing to remember about cleaning the A/C-- don't use a high pressure water nozzle on the washing of the fins. They are very tender and you can bend them easily. If I use water, I take off the nozzle and just run weather through them. It's surprizing how much dirt comes out of them. I try to clean mine once a year.
jlb27537-- Nothing wrong with Nebrska and the cottonwoods unles you're parked in a park that has them all around you and they are shedding their cotton. That's normally only during late May and June but not every year. The dryer it is the more cotton is formed to spead seeds because the tree is stressed.

As Rondo says, it pays to be gentle with the fins. I also do it once a year. Another reason to clean out under there is to make sure the mud daubers haven't nested in there.

Well, I climbed up on top this morning and opened both AC's. Both were basically clean. The front however had a surprise -- 2-3" red wasp nest. Have you ever fought off wasp with a air hose??? I did and won!!!;>)

The last part of the previous post is absolutely wrong without pictures. The proper way to have fended them off is with air hose in one hand and using the other hand to take humorous photos for us to enjoy on the MOC. Glad you survived though!

Way to go Chuck! You may need an award for not falling off the roof while doing battle!

Great advice by our learned MOC members. I agree about the Wasps, be careful, they drove a guy off a roof one time, broke his leg.
