unplug TV?

I was wondering what the thoughts are about unplugging the TV when in storage. I never worried about the old "cheap" tv's but these new LCD ones are a little more expensive. I am worried that if we have a lightening storm it may damage the TV if not unplugged. What do all of you do?

If you store your rig and you are not plugged into shore power, then you do not need to unplug the televisions because without shore power none of your 110v devices, including televisions are receiving power anyway.

If you store your rig and you ARE plugged into shore power, then yes, I would unplug them to preserve them. Leaving televisions (glass tubes too) does also waste a little bit of power leaving them plugged in because if your television is able to be turned on using a remote control then as long as they are plugged in, a small amount of power is required in order to read the remote control to turn on its main power.

Regarding concerns over lightning, the odds are low, but I am sure another member can explain this.

When ever I leave my rig for any length of time or before getting ready to travel, I unplug both tvs and the Direct TV satelite receiver. Then after I plug back into shore power, I then plug them back in.
