battery over voltage

Recently as I was changing my inverter, I was disconnecting the fuse that goes from the inverter to the battery and accidently touched metal with the wrench which caused a spark but did not blow the fuse. Since then, the solar controller started showing a red flashing light which means “battery over voltage or over temperature”. When I start drawing from the batteries (turn lights on, tv on) it goes back to normal. Any idea what is happening? I have 4, 6 volt wet sell batteries that are only 2 years old

I would start by recycling the solar controller. Just briefly shorting a battery terminal to ground shouldn't cause any damage to the batteries.
