Greasy brake linings
Recently there were a number of posts concerning grease on the brake linings. Because of these posts, I decided to check my brakes.
Happily, there was no grease on the brake linings BUT-there was enough grease in the hubs to lubricate the bearings of every trailer in town. I think it resulted from over an zealous employee somewhere with a grease gun who greased the bearings using the EZ lube zerks.
I cleaned the hubs, greased the bearings the old fashioned way and threw the zerks away. I also replaced the seals and although I got them at NAPA (Sunday-expensive) they can be gotten from Amazon. The part number is 22558 or SKF22558 ($13.99 ea.).
Please note that these seals are for my 31RLD TT although I think the seals are the same for all newer Dexter axles. The originals were stamped (on the rubber) 010-036-00. The ID is 2.25" and the OD is 3.375"
