Step recallhttps://montanaadministrator.forumco.com

Just took my 3582RL to the dealer for the step recall, upon arrival I was told they do not have the kits to do the repair but hope they would get them soon !!!!javascript:insertsmilie('')
I wonder when making the appointment did they not know that, it's an hour drive each way to the dealer and we are leaving next Tuesday on a 20 day trip to So Cal.
Good job I had other stuff for him to do.

I have been dealing with Oklahoma RV Center and they called and told me the repair kits that they ordered have come in and they are ready for our arrival next week. Hopefully all goes well with the fix.

I'm sure the parts used will be made offshore in that same country that brought us the marathon tire, but I hope they hold up better. John

What?!?! They let you pull it to the appointment, only to tell you they weren't ready to fix it??? I hope you went straight to the GM of the business! I would have been livid, and demanded a half tank of diesel at minimum!

I hope someone who has the fix applied will be kind enough to provide a couple of pics of the repair. I do not want to drive hours to a dealer and if the replacement is merely some kind of bolt system, it may turn into a do-it-myself repair. I did have the steps break already at the rivet and camping world repaired the broken rivet with a bolt, but if Keystone will provide a kit, I am more than willing to do the recall work myself.

My thought on doing it myself.

If I knock the rivets out and install bolts it will be on me when something else breaks on the steps. Something I can do in a hour.

If I let them put in bolts and something else breaks on the steps, it will be on Keystone. And I WILL hold them responsible.

Just had a call from the dealer, they said that there are cracks on my steps and the whole step unit needs to be replaced, I told the service man this is now an unsafe condition, to which he agreed.
So do I cancel my trips to take our grand kids to disneyland or take the chance that nothing bad will happen, we are scheduled to leave on Tuesday!!!!
DAMN.

I would go to Disney. Place some support under the bottom step and keep an eye on the cracks.

Or just put some West Virginia license plates on the rig, leave the steps folded in and use some cinder blocks to fashion steps into the rig. See it all the time here on mobile homes (trailers)!!

Most RV dealers won't have the parts to my way of thinking so a visit dragging the rig won't work for me. I have used bolts so far and know CW won't have the parts right away. It's a call many of us don't care to be faced with;

The original post on this recall showed a picture of the steps in question, it displayed a sticker stating "made in America" why would we think the repair parts would be made offshore and even if they were the repair cannot be worse than the original product has been.
If you have cracks or rivets popping out on any other step other than the bottom one, placing something under the bottom step will do nothing to improve safety. If you really want to go to Disneyland I would buy some 3/4" plywood and make steps high enough to enter/exit the unit safely and leave the original ones folded up. You could carry the plywood steps in the truck or inside the RV during traveling.
Having those steps collapse when someone is on them could cause significant injury, there is no way I would be using them until they were replaced or repaired properly.

Seems this problem is only related to the newer Montana's as mine are a different brand and were made in India, they have a inspection label on them with a signature and I have had no problem with any part of them. Perhaps Keystone should be re-thinking the supplier they are now using.

I hope your trip does not have to be cancelled due to this kind of problem....

I disagree. If that bottom step is hanging out there unsupported that places a strain on the upper parts of the assembly. A little support there will help. When my steps had an upper rivet going bad the strain on it was much more evident when stepping on the bottom step

Why, oh why do I have to find out about recalls etc. on MOC? I just fixed my entry door lock (on a recall) and now this. Keystone never advises anyone. Self-serve - it is frustrating!

If I wouldn't have heard about his recall on the MOC I still would have known because Keystone sent me a recall letter. This is possibly the only positive thing they have done for me since ownership.

I'm going to Tiara RV on Monday for the step recall among other items and I'll post what they do. I plan on standing over their shoulder while they do it. I wanted the whole steps system replaced, but that's not going to happen unless I do it myself. It's been denied so far. On the way here to Elkhart the top step rear rivet sheered off and I had to "borrow" a bolt and nut to make it useful. Thank goodness for CC's with owners willing to help out.

heres my story. recieved my recall letter from keystone on the stairs around april 10th. called my dealer Deans rv tulsa ok. and they ordered the kit. i stopped in on my way to work on april 24th and terry the serviceman said your kit is in and he let me have it they had 15 units waiting for serivce plus he knows im a muechanic and i can do it. the kit was 6 bolts and washer, with a spacer made from something it allowed the steps to pivot between the two parts. i was out this weekend and replaced the bottom 4 in about a hour. drilled the buttale of the rivet then took a chisel and hammer and knocked it off. had to step up the stair holes with a unibit to match the new bolts. so far pleased with the process, not sure why there are shortages of the kits.

We got our recall a month ago but I wonder......those of us that have the 3850FL also have a back door. Are those steps also to be repaired??

Hello,
I have a 2012 Montana Mountaineer. Just now applied for the recall on the door lock. I see my bottom step is starting to pull away from the side. Can someone steer me to the step recall info? Thank you very much.
I did fall off it last year because of the amount of give it has.
