Identy Theft Insurance
Does anyone have Identy Theft Insurance. Someone hacked my xwork pc system and stole enough personel information to set me up with a paypal extra credit card and a month later I recieved a bill for 400 dollars on an card I never applyed for nor the card was never activated. Kathy found the card she layed it back to ask me about it.

We've had card numbers stolen twice in the last couple of years, but haven't gone the insurance route.

I usually place a 90 day fraud alert on my account, every 90 days or so. It makes it harder for people to open accounts in your name and doing it is free. Along with something from Experian to keep an eye on your credit you should be good to go.

I have never had it, nor felt the desire to get it. But then again, I never left personal info on a computer I didn't have control of - including the one I had at work - without encrypting it. Even on my home computer that stuff is password protected in case someone ever stole the computer.

Tom it wasn't My PC nor My company pc it was The BNSF Carrier that I worked for that got hacked and they had personel records of their employees and evidently retired employees. Seems several of us that worked there had this happen to us. But now with this information out there I think maybe if they can apply for a credit card for me what else could they do? I would like maybe to enjoy some of the things they may buy for me.

In that case, I believe the company is on the hook for providing you with some sort of protection.

X2. If they have the info they incur the liability.

Thanks for the input I was wondering what kind if any one should buy the Sherrif told me tonite it will probably be turned over to Attorney General or FBI from his office. Dick I had a credit card that someone used but never had someone apply for one for me and use it. I guess I worry about how much personel information they have and could sell to someone else

I understand, and I would be concerned about that also.

I had GMAC car insurance and someone from there corporate office took a laptop home and left it in there car and it was stolen. On it had personel info on thousands of clients including mine. They gave me free Experian Credit insurance and a few other things which I can't remember now. So it's not what you do with your info in as much as idiots like this one did. Nothing ever became of the stolen info of mine, but only they know the lasting damage.

When you buy identity theft insurance don't you have to tell them everything you are trying to keep private?
