Heat Pump

We are looking at the Montana 2011 brochure and they do not list the heat pump a/c as an option. Has anyone ordered a Montana with the main a/c having a heat pump option. Looks like it would be a propane saver down to around 40 degrees.

I would think these types of heat pumps don't give a real hot heat, when you add a fast fan speed and the area it has to heat, it just wouldn't give a warm feeling, more of a chilly draft. just my opinion on the deal.
I had an electric element heat strip I added to an A/C we had on a trailer, it would heat some, but I didn't like the draft.
I won't get another one of those.

Me too! I had a 2nd AC mounted in the bedroom vent with heat strips installed. We used that option once for about an hour then turned it off. Except for use of the AC, the unit has been quiet ever since.

I've never been a big fan of heat pumps. OZZ said it well. Warmed air temperature is so close to room it is chilling to me. Also, I was gonna buy the auxiliary heat strips. Tech told me he had never installed them and had someone happy with it. DW just ordered a Lasko ceramic heater...wow....I am so happy with it's preformance.

Appreciate all of the replies. We have the heat pump on our current fifth wheel's main a/c. The heat pump will not warm you as quick as a propane heat will but have not noticed a draft feeling.

I installed the heat strips in both air conditioners. The new strips seem to be longer than the old ones that were on the market. We had an eighteen degree difference between intake and outtake (60 - 78). Worked well in 40-50 degree weather. Have not tested it any lower. No draft feeling. Saving propane and very satisfied. Cannot confirm if the heat strips are longer and more efficient. I only know that they are working for us in cool weather.
