more tire questios.

still tire shopping.
any one have experience (good or bad) with the TOYO tire.
i'm looking at lt 235/85R-16 M_54 276.25 ea.no hwy warrenty. AND
lt 235/85R-16 open country H/T tuff duty 183.65 ea. w. 50,000 hwy. warrenty. no hwy millage warrenty for the 5ver.
one dealer was leaning towards the m-54 and other dealer was leaming towards the open country H/T. he said the open country h/t was a computer generated tire but the m-54 has been around for a long time.
this forum has a lot of support for the goodyear g614.
i.m leaning towards the open country H/T tire.
thanks for the inf.
07 monty md. 3295 wgh. a little over 13k lbs.

I have taken from the list of tires people have recommended on this forum. Michelin, and BF Goodrich have been my choice. There are a hundred other name brands out there. The Chinese made tires seem to be the most trouble.
It will be interesting to hear if anyone has used Toyo tires.

I have two Toyo tires on the front of my TV, they are made in Korea. Never had a problem, but the new ones I put on the rear are Michelin. We are on the road more now and they will be easier to find.
The Toyos have about 25,000 miles on them and look good. For the money they are a good tire.

Gene,
Your weight is over 13K, 13,000 lbs divided by 4 tires is 3250 lbs per tire, if the weight distribution is equal, that is 3250 lbs per tire.
Yes 3250 lbs per tire.
I think the tires you are looking at at rated at 3042lbs, E rating, the is 3042 lbs times 4 tires is 12,168 lbs of tire rating, you are about 1,000 lbs short.
Goodyear G614 tires are G rated, 3,900 lbs capacity, times 4 tires is 15,600 lbs of tire rating.
The Goodyear G614 will cost you about what you were going to pay for the TOYO.
I don't care if you if you go with the Goodyear, but you need a G rated tire.
Would you have a 500lb Gorilla climb a ladder rated at 300lbs, and hold the ladder for him, I don't think so.
Just my opinion

thanks for the inf.
my monty axel wgh. is 10280lbs. which would give me the extra 20%safety.
the dealer was telling me to stay away from the 14 ply because the extra steel in the tire would built excess heat.
my buddy was running G614 on his SOB( mobile suite) and 3 of the tires have blown out. i know a lot of you are using G614's and get good service.
just trying to gather inf. before i buy. all the INF. is appreciated.
my 5ver is an 07. i bought tires last june and have bought 3 tires this yr.
presenty in lewiston,Id.

Gene,

I have used the Toyo Open Country A/T's and H/T's on my TV's for years now. My rigs have all been 3/4T.'s and the load range E's worked out just fine.

I guess because here in the West, Les Schwab is a prominent dealer network and have always treated me OK with the Toyo's.

The ride and all season performance has been excellent on all I have had. I have them rotated / balanced at 3k - 5k intervals and the wear has been excellent.

However, I have no experence with them on the RV's.

Hope my two bits is of some use.

Not exactly...20% (+ or -) of that weight will be pin weight and not carried by the Montana's tires, but by the truck.

. thanks for the feed back.

total tra. wgh. with 2/3 tank of h2o 13,300. lbs.
pin. wgh. 3,020. lbs.
total axel wgh. 10,280. lbs.
avg. wheel wgh. 2,570. lbs.
does this math keep me in the E rated tire range.
the toyo tires feels twicw as heavy as the mission and the goodyear marthrons.
if you tour the montana factory you will see goodyear marthrons on the tra. the rep. at the factory said the workers go home after they produce 19 monty's per day. i think mind was # 19 on a fri.
anyway thanks for the inf.

07 5ver md. 3295 5.5 kw gen., trail air hitch, disc brakes, wet bolts, extra battery. moved the elec. jack switch to the outside. toppers over the slides.

Gene,
Yes, I was putting the 13,000 on the axles, not figuring the hitch weight. Sorry about that.
"the dealer was telling me to stay away from the 14 ply because the extra steel in the tire would built excess heat."
What does the dealer think about all the steel in truck tires (over the road, 22") there is a lot of steel in them.
"my buddy was running G614 on his SOB( mobile suite) and 3 of the tires have blown out. i know a lot of you are using G614's and get good service."
A few years back they had some problems with the G614 and (mobile suite) are heavy 5th wheel, over 16k.
But if I WERE TO PAY $ 276.50 tires, I would look into a G rated tire, the G over E rating does not hurt.
Thanks
E. Sven

We changed our tires from Missions to Goodyear G614's two weeks ago. I know they are expensive, but why ask for trouble from the Chinese Bombs?
I sure feel 100% better now going down the road. Sure, No tire is infallible.

I just replaced my GY Marathons on my brand new 2011 3150RL with GY G614s for peace of mind. The 614s weigh over 20lbs more each than the Marathons because of the steel belts. And they are Made in the USA.

Just ending a 7000 mile trip with my new BFG Commercial TA's, on the Montana, and am pleased to say they performed well. They ran noticably cooler than the Goodyear Marathons they replaced. No sign of wear. I'm pleased and am considering putting them on my TV when it needs replacements.

Interestingly, the Marathons were rated for 3440 pounds and the BFG's are rated at 3042. I can only imagine why. Maybe because the Marathons were rated at 65MPH AND THE BFG'S ARE RATED AT 99 MPH. Or, one was made in China and one was made in the USA and the manufacturing was held to different expectations.

still tire shopping. one thing that supprised me was the price difference from east to west. the toyo lt 235/85r16 is 183.00 ea. in id. and in va. they are 139.00

the michelin xps was 269.00 in va. and 318.00 in id.

i'm looking at the cooper lt235/85r16 SMR 2 197.00 ea. a usa made tire.

the les schwab dealer in lewiston doesn't want the goodyear marthon's that are coming on the new trailers.

thanks for your inf.
