Central Vac System

Any advise on the central vac system - to order or not to order. Does it do a better job than one of those electric brooms??? Information would help while making up the old wish list.

We like our central vac and it does save some space. It is powerful and you can reach the vent screens to clean them. Only negative is that the connections sometimes pulls apart, but all vacs do.

Love my central vac. I haven't had any problems with connection...maybe I have a little more hose?? Anyway, I wouldn't have an RV without the central vac now that I have it! Plenty of suction even for our Cockatoo's birdseed. Highly recommend you order it.

I love ours. It's not the Dometic brand that Keystone installs in their units. We have a Dirt Devil. It was something we added in on our own this summer while in Montana on vacation. I had RV Upgrades mail it to me there and we spent the better part of the day installing it.

If I ordered a new Montana I would without a doubt get a central vac. The only thing I like about mine better is that the whole unit is in the basement and I can get to it via the laundry door to change the bags.

My sister has the Dometic that came from the factory and she loves hers.

I know for me it gave me more room in my front closet where I was storing my other vacuum. I only wish they'd supply one with a beater bar. There are quite a few out now that are air powered and work well.

We like ours, also. We have the 3400 and the hose reaches the entire unit. Storage is right next to the connection. I agree with Patty, it does save space.

Sissyph, we don't have the central vac but I wanted to address your question about electric brooms. We used one of those for the first year or so of our fulltiming. We were looking to minimize space usage when it's stored. Somewhere on this forum are some posts where we commented our carpet was not wearing well at all. Well, I forgot why but we ended up replacing that stick vac with a real home vacuum and, wow, what a difference! I think we had to empty the cup three or four times in the first vacuuming. You could hear all the dirt and whatever getting sucked up out of the carpet. And the carpet looked so much better afterwards. We may someday go to the central vac. For now we're using a home style vacuum. No more electric brooms here except for minor quick work. Maybe other brands are better. Ours was an Oreck.
