Fuel Survey??

I just set a new best on fuel economy for my truck. I covered 600 miles consuming 23.8 gallons. That comes out to 25.2 MPG!!!Hand calculated(on board computer read 25.5 mpg)

This was on a jaunt from Spokane, WA to Butte, MT and back. Went over the 4th of July and Lookout mountain passes. Cruise set at 75 mph entire trip except for the two passes, I dropped it down to 65 mph.

I have noticed an increase in my fuel economy over the past month. I figured the local Petro has switched over to summer blend. I am still using GM Diesel fuel conditioner in every tank to help with the possible negative effects of the new ULSD fuel. In looking through my fuel log I have noticed I get my best fuel economy when I fill up using ExxonMobil diesel fuel.

What brand of fuel do you all get your best fuel mileage from???

Checking the MPG is something I haven't done with the 2005 GMC. When I had the 2003 Chev I believe I only checked it 3 or 4 times in over 70,000 miles and if I recall my best was somewhere around 23MPG empty. For whatever reason, so long as the truck is running as it should, MPG just doesn't concern me.

Orv,
Thank you, I should have clarified... It was a friend and myself, not towing and I had my 5th wheel "V-tailgate" on.

Glenn,
I have run a fuel log on every vehicle I have ever owned. I am just weird like that I guess...

Sky,

Not weird, I do the same thing. My new TV isn't close to being broken in yet but I got 11.6 in a mini test this weekend towing. Not great but much better than my old gasser. As far as empty the best I've gotten so far was 17 but that was a combined highway and city.

mac,
Remember, you have the LBZ and I have the LB7. Once you break in your motor I bet you will see your average in the 19's...

sailer,
My average fuel economy towing the coach is 12/13 mpg. Leaving Salt Lake City, UT heading to Cheyenne, WY last fall I averaged 11.7 mpg. That was on I-80 which brought me up and over the 10,000' level in Park City, UT. Also, that includes the winds that tend to blow across southern Wyoming. I tow 65-68 mph which rolls me right at 1,900 rpm's.

Rich,
I have just over 73,000 miles on this truck and I think it is finally starting to get broke in. I have noticed a pretty steady increase in fuel economy over the winter, my average over the past six months has been 20/21 mpg. Now this last tank at 25 mpg, I only hope it will stay this way...

I usually check our mileage also. In the end, it really doesn't matter as you have to refill the tank anyway, but a significant change could possibly signal some trouble, and give you a "heads up".

The best I can get in my F350 is 17mpg. The best I could get in my 1/2 Ton Silverado was 21mpg. But I only check mileage when the trucks are new and not much after that. Because it is not very good I think I would just rather not know.
