Trailer bearing, oil or grease?

Last year I had an IS with disc brakes installed & was debating about changing to oiled bearings. I guess all I'd have to change is the seals.
Anybody try it.

There is conversation on this subject that may offer some thoughts. see: https://www.montanaowners.com/forums...ad.php?t=70417

I would love to have the Moryde IS but will probably settle to do the Disc brake conversion ONLY. I also planned to go with oil bath seals.

I absolutely hate cleaning and repacking wheel bearings and not to start a side debate ... don't care for the EZ Lube. I went with Kodiac wet hub kits and have had pretty good luck with them. The seals are a bear to install unless you make an install tool which I finally did ... then my pretty good luck went to good luck. You have to install a different hub cover to replace the tin one with the rubber plug in the middle, but it all comes in the Kodiac kit. I've pulled about 18K with the wet hubs and like them. Once in a pinch, I ran a regular 10-36 seal instead of the supplied Kodiac 2 piece seal and the oil stayed in the hub.

As for your statement of just changing seals ... how are you going to hold the oil inside the hub? The tin dust cover won't hold oil very well. You won't be able to check the oil level either.

If I remember right I already have the clear covers, not 100% though.
The only issue I've heard is from Brian @ Moryde that they tend to leak sometimes when they sit.

Either way you still need to check the bearings and brakes regularly.

Really all one should have to do is look at the pads to see how much is left & give the wheel a spin to make sure the bearing is still tight & smooth. No different than your truck or car.
