I absolutely love the puck system. Nothing like having a nice clean flat bed to haul cargo when you remove your hitch. And since it is factory, you can count on it to be installed properly and securely to the frame members.


And then there is the very solid feel with no noise or chucking like you get from the "universal fit" rail systems. Which all tend to have some slack in them.

I have pullrite autoglide hitch. Can someone explain what a puck system is and also what about 'rails'? My hitch has pins that drop and turn into holes in the bed. So when removed, the bed is flat. Is that the same as a puck system?

I have the factory puck set up with B&W Companion in a 2016 F350 and love it.

Not sure why they call it a puck system. But yes, the system where the hitch has pins on the bottom that drop thru holes in the bed and turn to lock is called a puck system.

Yes, the pucks are the factory system built under the bed at manufacture, eliminating the need for the in-the-bed rails that everyone used before this came about. I don't know why they're called "pucks", but I suspect it's what they look like if you could see them.

I suspect that it is called a "puck system" because the part of the hitch that goes into the holes in the bed are round and about the size of hockey puck.


The 'rail system" has steel rails that are on top of the bed floor.

Installed the puck system myself, the only way I wanted to go.

Clean bed if you pull the hitch.

My truck is a 2011, which I believe is the first year Ford used that system. Two 12,000 pound 5ers and 35-40K miles with nary a problem with my B&W which I feel superior to the Ford/Reese. Just be sure the four hitch cam nuts are tight as the hitch will clunk a bit if loose. I snug them down with a wrench then cotter pin them to keep the adjustment snug

We have 2015 Ford F350 with Puck System and Husky 26K hitch just pulled my new 2017 381TH High County from Colorodo to Washington State with no problem and have another 36' fifth wheel that fully loaded is 15000 lbs. pulled it all last year with no problem.

Thanks everyone for your feed back, just go back from a 7000 mile excursion. The system worked as you all suggested, no issues at all. got home and removed system to inspect and found no wear or hardware issues. i will take your advice and lock this system up. all your advice gave me much peace of mind as we traveled. thanks again

I’ve quit trying to remove the fifth wheel hitch manually. Just leave it attached to the camper king pin, pull the pins securing it to the bed rails and lift it up with the leveling legs. Drive out. Hook up is the reverse. If I don’t get it exactly in place the first time, I pull the lever and it drops to the bed where it’s easy to maneuver into the slits and re-pin. Mechanical advantage. It’s a wonderful thing. 😎
