Ford 6.7 Powerstroke Upper Oil Pan Gasket
Just a heads up to keep an eye on it. Mine started leaking at 55,000 miles. Covered under the 5 year 100K diesel warranty. Haven't had it fixed yet. Talking to the dealership in a few days.

I don’t know about the 6.7 but the 2.7 Ecoboost has a problem with oil pans leaks. The pan doesn’t have a gasket and seals with silicone. After it is replaced they MUST set for 24 hours to allow the silicone to cure. If it doesn’t you will probably be back to have it redone. If the 6.7 doesn’t have a gasket I would think it’s the same.

I did some research. It doesn't and they're the same. A very $$$$ job if discovered outside of warranty. Apparently about 10 or 12 billable hours.

You make sure the tech knows exactly how to fix it and he goes by the book. The next time will probably be on you.
I’ve had 2, 2,7s without a problem. It’s a great little engine, 325 HP and 400 TK and the most trouble engine Ford makes. When Ford makes a 6.7 Ecoboost I’m going to be the first in line to get one.

From what I've been able to tell Ford is acutely aware of the problem. Apparently if they do a good job cleaning it throughly it'll be good to go.
Our 2018 was a CPO and I bought the Ford extended warranty which has us covered pretty much bumper to bumper for 45,000 more miles.

Ford is aware of the problem. The tech is who you need to be aware of. They get paid by the job. If they can get done faster by taking short cuts they make more money. I visit a F150 site often and many times the truck is put back in service too early only to have a leaking pan later on. Make sure the proper procedures are followed.

Thx for the heads up. The son in law just got one. Its too bad Ford hasn't found themselves regarding diesel powertrain. One thing after another ever since the 7.3. Otherwise, their fit and finish is top of the line. Imagine a Ford with H.O. Cummins/Aisin power. It would put the other two out of business.

You're welcome. Ours was a CPO with 47,000 miles on it. The dealership offered the Ford Warranty extended to 5 years and 100K. After having looked under the hood I jumped all over it.

Don’t know if it’s still true but recently ford owned Cummins but is not allowed to use it in their smaller trucks due to a contract previously signed with dodge. Great motor. Too bad they can’t use it, YET.

Ford has never owned Cummings. This is urban legend that has been around for years.

Cummins is a public shares. Ford owns about 30%, but not a controlling interest. Ford is in a contract with navistar and cummins is in a contract with fiat Chrysler. The Cummins used to be put in the F650 and larger trucks along with Allison trans, but thoughs days are long gone. As for a cummins in a ford F450 or smaller, it probably will not happen anytime soon. As for ford owning them. Sorry its not true.

There has been a backyard mod putting Cummins engines in the now elderly 6.0 and 6.4 trucks. I looked into buying a real cheap but nice otherwise 6.0 powered truck with a blown engine many years back and went through many hours of research on various websites. Other then that, there was some talk of using the Cummins as OE equipment bbut that disappeared.

They should have the truck for a couple days. First they need to remove the transmission then drop both pans. Then they need to let the motor drip as much oil as it can to not get into the sealant they use to seal up the pan. I had this happen to my truck twice and both times they fixed it under warranty. Second leak came from a adapter plate bolted to the back of the motor. You just cant rush a job like this. It has been a rummer that the robot that seals the pan doesn't get the sealant exactly where it is supposed to go. Many trucks have this problem in the 15 16 years. Surprised your 17 has this issue.

Upper oil pan gasket started leaking in my 6.7 at about 70,000 miles covered by warranty. It took dealer 2 week to get it done (parts problems they said) very expensive if out of warranty.

If you have a diesel it's covered:
Quote:
(4) Your vehicle’s direct injection diesel engine and certain engine components are covered during the PowerStroke Diesel Engine Coverage Period, which lasts for five years or 100,000 miles, whichever occurs first. The following parts are covered during this extended coverage period: the engine, cylinder block, heads and all internal parts, intake and exhaust manifolds, timing gear, harmonic balancer, valve covers, oil pan and pump, water pump, fuel system (excluding fuel lines, fuel tank and frame mounted fuel conditioning module sometimes referred to as the frame mounted pump/filter/water separator or frame mounted fuel filter/water separator), high pressure lines, gaskets and seals, glow plugs, turbocharger, two-stage turbocharger assembly, turbocharger actuator, powertrain control module, high pressure fuel injection pump assembly, injectors, injection pressure sensor, fuel rail pressure sensor, exhaust back pressure regulator and sensor, exhaust pressure sensor, manifold pressure sensor, intake air temperature sensor, crankshaft position sensor, camshaft position sensor, accelerator switch.
