Black Tank leaked but repair can't find the leak???

On a recent trip, went through the "ice cube" routine on one leg of the trip. On arrival for that nights stay, noticed the "porta-potty" smell INSIDE the 5vr. Checked and saw what appeared to be about a gallon or so of black tank fluids leaking onto the ground. Emptied the tank, kept tank level low remainder of the trip. Made arrangement to turn in the rig for repair at our usual repair shop which was done...30 days later they tell me they can't find any leaks/cracks, etc. on the black tank...they state they filled it full of water and nothing was leaking out! I'm dumfounded as to why, after seeing AND smelling the leakage that they are unable to determine where the leak source is...still waiting for repairs to be finished. FRUSTRATING to say the least.

Maybe have them check all the tanks just in case it was one of the others?

The "porta-potty" smell was the give-away...and the location of the visible fluid leakage which was directly underneath the location of the black tank on my rig

The older tanks were often two piece tanks. They can split at the welded seam and not be obvious upon visual inspection. Filling it full will reveal a leak. I would question their diagnosis.

Also, sometimes the downspout that connects into the top of the tank will pull off. doesn't cause too much of a problem unless it is full or partly full and bumping down the road. Ask me how I know! Drove all the way home from Saskatchewan to AZ and just didn't travel with anything in the tank.

Yea, and replacing one is lots of fun! Don't ask me how I know.
