Surge Protector for my 3731FL

I was going to buy a Progressive Industries EMS-HW50C for my Montana but the dealership told me that I didn't need to because the RV had a built in surge Protector. I would like any opinion on this matter.
Thanks
R.Berry

Unless it was installed by the dealer I'm sure you don't have one. Keystone does not install them. Not even an option on my 2017 Montana. Go with the Progressive and sleep good at night.

The dealer doesn't have the faintest idea what he's talking about. Besides, a Progressive EMS will do far more than just protect you against surges.

You need to keep that camper it's a collectors piece. The only one ever built like it.
Get the Progressive EMS.

Is your rig a new or used Montana? You didn't say. If it is used possibly the previous owner added one to it

My Montana is the 3731FL and the power cord plugs into the back left corner of the RV. If I got the EMS-HW50C where would I Hard-wire it in? it would be nice to have an electrical schematic for the rig.
Maybe I'll go with the EMS-PT50X instead.

Mine is installed behind the power center. You have to pull the rear wall of the basement to get access. Kinda tight working conditions , but it fits in there nicely. JT.

Don't waste your time looking for a schematic for your RV. It doesn't exist.
I located my EMS-HW50C behind the power control center. Just remove the basement panel behind the power center and you will be able to see a place to mount it.

Our dealership said we needed one for our 2017 Montana 3811ms in order to be covered by our warranty for all the electronics. We bought the 50 amp Portable Surge Guard model 34850 (this is the one they recommended). It's portable and kind of expensive. It does the job though. You plug it in, let it diagnose the electricity at the park. When it goes green you plug your rig in and your surge protected.

Just a word of caution, Do not plug your rig into the pedestal or surge protector while it is powered up, you could arc your plug and trailer. turn off the pedestal and plug everything into each other first, then apply pedestal power. If there is something wrong with the park power, your EMS will not let the power go to your trailer so your protected. No need to wait to plug the trailer in. Reverse the process to unplug always shut off the pedestal breaker before unplugging or plugging in.

Did the dealership just by chance be selling the Surge Guards?

OMG These dealerships and their upsale tactics.. I have read my warranty manual and have never read that little clause. Let me guess, they had just what you needed on the shelf or ordered it for you.
