mold on windows

anyone get mold on their windows? we have noticed a small amount mostly on the large dinette windows. where we were camping this summer was in the woods and it was an unusual cool damp and rainy summer. maybe a fluke thing, but never noticed it before, but this is also the first time we have had dual pane windows.

Is the mold inside or outside?

Yes we have had mold. The only thing that worked for us was to buy the little things at camping world with the white gravel on top and a place on the bottom that collects the moisture. Keeping a vent or window opens helps also. Ed says the little things are called Drys It. (Little things worked also.)

You can buy a small dehumidifier at Walmart for about $50.00. It has worked well for us.

you can also invest in a electrict heater that will also help remove moisture from the trailer.

I have never had any mold or meldew in any of my RV's, and I've been RV'n from the early 70's. I have had moisture build up, but with ventaltion it would dry, I went hunting one time and my rifel was dripping wet, I did hand dry that, and oil the dickins out of it. was one of those wet and miserable hunting trip. I dont know if moisture is caused be our body heat hitting the cold windows and walls, BTU's tooo many maybe. Good luck I sure dont know how to stop it.

So some of this has to be the local weather, humidity, etc. Calif does not normally have humidity but we do have cold nights and then hot days. Does that maybe do it???

It is important to keep your rv well ventilated. Even in cold weather we always have a window and roof vent cracked open. If we start to see a lot of moisture on the windows I will open another window a little.Running a heater with no ventilation will just give you warm moisture,it has to have somewhere to go. I also leave a couple windows open a little when not being used.

I agree. When we had the real major mold problem in our other unit, we had the covers for the vents installed so we could open the vents and not worry about rain. This did help a lot but we still used the little things (Drys Its) and you have to empty the water out of them ever so often so you know they are drawing moisture.

Using the dehumidifiers, heaters, ventilation & Drys Its product will certainly help in preventing mold and mildew, but if you don't first kill it, it will certainly come back in a big way. Try using a solution of Bleach and Water (3 parts water to 1 part Bleach) in a small spray bottle, or a cleaning product that contains bleach, be careful though not to get it on anything else, it is after all bleach. After cleaning it off, rince with a rag of pure water. After killing the mildew and spore, and you have heat and proper ventilation your mildew problem should disapear!

All this talk got me thinking. My unit is at the dealership for little stuff that I never had time to take back to get fixed. I called them and asked to install a cover over one of the vents so I can keep it open in the winter a crack. Thanks for the advise!

I have had TT's and campers for about 30 years now until I got the Montana 5th wheel and have never had a problem with mold. I have put the covers over the vents and leave the vents cracked open just a little. I have a pontoon boat that is covered with a tyvec cover and even with the drysit it gets mold on the seats during the winter months.
