Shore Power plug in front.

Those of you with generators, in the truck bed, have you installed a shore power plug up front or do you run a cord back to the back of the trailer when parked?

Jim

I added a transfer switch and put a 50 amp shore plug up front. Much easier and used 25% of the time at campgrounds too.

We don't have a truck generator, but we do carry a 25' 50 amp extension cord. There are those weird campgrounds where the standard cord just won't reach.

Thanks DonandBonnie, we recently bought a eu2000i for recharging when dry camping, and never thought about needing extension cord, have put 25ft. cord on our shopping list. This cold weather has got me indoors spending a lot of time on MOC.

We have the extra extension cord, but since we have twin Honda's I usually just carry them to the back.

I use a Honda EUI2000 too. However, I just bought a 12 gauge extension cord to run back to the rear as it was much cheaper and lighter than the alternatives. The generator only puts out a max of 2000 watts, ie. less than 17 amps, so I don't need to drag out all that heavy cable. Just have to make sure the hot water heater is on gas only as it will really use up all your available wattage.

I have a 50 amp receptacle in the front of my camper with a short 30 amp cord to use with my generator while traveling. I can start the generator to use the microwave or run the AC even while traveling. I made my transfer switch using 2 industrial Square D breakers. Flip the switch forward for the front receptacle and to the rear for the one at the back of the camper.

OK Guys, I have the following, a 25' 50A extension cord, a 25' 30A cord, a 50' 30A cord, and a pigtail with 50A female/30A male adapter to plug into the 50Aplug on the back of the trailer when connecting to 30A at the house.

Can anyone, (I have not looked very good yet) give me the best place to tap into the existing 50A line from the back to the breaker area.

My converter/breakers are in the bottom of the area (at floor height) under the small closet just inside the entry door. A tough spot to get to. It backs up to the plumbing under the toilet and from the storage area not possible due to a cross brace that you can not crawl thru.

Keep the ideas coming and am open to seeing any pics you might have. I am pretty handy and understand electricity.

The site I am in presently, my sewer hose is within 4-5' of the connection, I had to drag out my 25' 50A extension to get to the pedestal. You got a extension, better bring it along.

One of the things on my list of mods to do is to rewire the shore plug to a street side location and just disconnect the cable to the rear one. Can't see any need to keep it or add a transfer switch if the receptacle is where it should have been put in the first place.

I want to add a 50 amp receptacle up front. Does anyone have a wiring diagram or pictures of what they did to add this to their unit?

Because I carry my Honda 3000i in a custom tool box in the back of my truck I installed a 30 amp plug and switch in my front compartment. It is wired directly to my breaker box. Now I have to say my breaker box is located in the bathroom and easier to access than some. My intent was not to install a front box for shore power it was just for the generator. Here is my install. I use a cable with male 30 amp plugs on both ends that I made up.

Thanks Iripguy for the picture. I have 2 Honda EU 2000 wired together mounted on a frame which is bolted to the Mor/ryde hitch. I am was hoping to find a way to install a solution where I could install a plug on an outside wall so I can still lock the doors to the basement. I also would like to learn where to "wire in " the plug at the panel. I know enough to be dangerous on electric matters but I can follow directions and a picture. I have a 2012 3582 and the main panel is in the bathroom which should not be too hard to access.

I put a plug in in the front wall just above the front basement door and run the wire to the main panel. If you can't get to the main box trace the wire back and splice in to it anywhere you can. You just haft to get a wire through the camper. I put mine to the top of basement and through the walls. For safety you must have a transfer switch or it could be a shock to someone. I doesn't haft to be automatic but they are most convenient for most people. Mine isn't automatic but most people don't have a machine shop to make one.
