Slider topper rattling noise

Added slide toppers last summer to avoid having to sweep slides off when packing up. Our toppers have the metal slats to protect the fabric when closed. We seem to get an excessive amount of noise. Anyone had any luck with reducing the noise? In retrospect I don't think I would have opted for the metal-slat protectors, since we are full-timers and the slides spend most of the time extended. Could have saved a few bucks and maybe reduced the noise level a bit.

Slide toppers are noisy in the wind, whether you have the metal on them or not. Just a little wind from the right direction makes lots of noise.

Some people put volley balls or some ball of that size between the topper and roof of the slideout ... others do a bungee cord long ways with the topper and slide ... some spend more money on a bow system that retracts and extends with the slide topper ... others just wear ear plugs Toppers keep debris off, but there is a downside as you've experienced.

I have those toppers also. I think the metal covers are for when you get too close to the trees or something else. We have not had any problems in 3 1/2 years. The toppers themselves flap in the wind and I have used a beachball and also long strapping with bungees over the large slide. I don't think the metal covers add any more noise when flapping. We have pulled ths slides in at night during extreme windy conditions. After having them this long, I would do it again if buying another rig.
