Noisey Bathromm Exhaust Fan

Has anyone solved the problem of the noisey bathroom exhaust fan without replacing the whole unit? I know that fantastic vent makes a nice fan (have 2 in other places on our RV) but really did not want the expense of putting one of those in the bathroom. Has anyone replace the motor to quiet one?

I thought my fan was loud until I realized that the fan blades were actually hitting the screen.

I think you'd be very happy with the extra expense of the Fantastic Fan. We installed one in our bathroom after having installed two in the rig. Noise is minimal and there are times that we run all three at the same time.

my fan is pretty quiet the only time it got noisie was when the fan blades got to close to the screen it was a easy fix then. I'm sure a fan change would be a very easy fix too after looking at mine not sure where you would find a better grade motor maybe Home Depot it is a 12 volt motor I belive

Computer case fans are very quiet and move as much air as the OEM fans. They're fairly easy to install and pretty cheap. I've also got two that I'm going to put in the exhaust vent over the stove and use a two speed switch to control.

Put a rheostat on it and you will have variable fan speed control.

I replaced the fan motor with a 120mm computer case fan. Very quiet.

We also replaced the bath fan, on the Montana we had, with a computer fan. Worked great. Cost was about $20. Very easy to install. It just happened to have a little blue light, when the fan was turned on. We liked that.
Can't remember which electronic store we bought it.

When you use the computer fan does it reverse out like the exhaust fan in the bathroom does now?

Unlike the current exhaust fans, you can easily turn the computer fan over to get it to exhaust.

Cdaniel, what year is your Montana? The newer ones have quiet fans so if yours is newer then check to see if the blades are hitting the screen as Jack mentioned.

The older Montanas had really noisy fans. The computer case fan works very well. That's what we used in our 2003.

Another option if you have the older one is to replace yours with the newer fan from the newer Montanas. Your Montana dealer can get it or might have it in stock. Ours is so quiet I haven't bothered to change it out.

As Firetrucker said, you can position the computer case fan to blow in or out. They're 12 volt so just mount and splice wires. I had to drill one small additional hole in a cross brace because of a size difference in fans.

Ours is a 2005 Montana 5th wheel. Hubby is going to check the fan blades to make sure they are not hitting after getting the emails, if that does not fix the problem we are going to look into the computer fan. Thanks for all your information. Very helpful. The fan drives us nuts so you know how loud it is.

We understand exactly. Our 2001 and 2003 Montanas had those really nasty fans. Computer case fans solved the problem very nicely. Don't go overboard and get one too big, though. In my opinion, 120mm is plenty big. I think it was Al, Country Guy, who told me he went with a really big one and it was too much. It may not have been Al.

thanks for the suggestions! Not only is ours noisy, it produces interference on the TV screen!

On our 3400RL water closet, the computer fan would probably have been the way to go. I replaced ours with a fantastic fan and to be honest it is overkill for a 45 cubic ft room. With the door closed there is not enough airflow under the door to supply the demand and it slows down the fan. I could have accomplished the same benefit with a much smaller fan, and the fantastic fan would have served better in the hall next to the shower.
