Toilet seat replacement

I would like to know if anyone replaced their toilet seat with a real one. Can it be done and which one should I buy?

Hi Jim & Kathy
We replaced our seat the first week. with one from Wally's world. It fits great and it is much firmer when you sit on it.

Replaced ours with a nice padded one from Home Depot or Lowes (can't remember which). The only thing that I can't stand about toilet seats nowadays is the worthless nylon seat attachment bolts that simply do not work or hold. I have replacement brass bolts on the gotta have list to see it they will at least hold the seat steady.

Yep. We replaced ours recently with a stock unit from Lowe's. I was worried about the changeout, but the hardware and dimensions are the same. Since the new unit will be heavier, you might want to consider a bumper block on the back wall to keep from damaging the wallpaper or panelling.

We replaced ours with a standard home seat. Ours is the SeaLand porcelain toilet. I'm not sure whether the home units fit the plastic Thetford toilets or not.

The Navy has a whole bunch of surplus ones, but it will cost you $900 for the tool to install it.

I know what my next upgrade to the Monty will be. Thanks Steve for mentioning you replaced the seat on the Sealand porcelain.

The seat & lid (one unit) replacement for the Thedford plastic toilets ran around $45-$50. When the second one broke (on our previous 5er) was when we decided to upgrade to a new toilet. Good move!
Happy trails..........................
