Those with shackle concerns might also want to read the current thread on the TrailAir suspension. http://www.montanaowners.com/forums/...ad.php?t=23647

I have a 2007 3400 with the new Mor/Ryde suspension. I still have those thin shackles, though. However, everything I have been reading about (on both threads) are problems with the older style axle/spring type of suspensions - pre-Mor/Ryde. Any one installing these kits on the newer Mor/Ryde suspension springs???

I went to Mor/Ryde's web page and they speak of an optional wet bolt system that can be installed at the factory. You might go there and do a little research and also look at Dexter's web page and decide for yourself I wish I could give you a more definitive answer but I havent seen a Montana with the Mor/Ryde system.

Thanks, Dave. We typically have a Mor/Ryde rep give a talk during the Rally and then a Mor/Ryde factory tour. This would be a good opportunity for info on this shackle situation.

I will be talking to the Mor Ryde folks this week about installing the heavy duty kit on my 06 Dave and as you know it is just a couple of months older than yours. We drive a lot of miles and do not want to take the chance. Don'r know if they will be at the rally or not..no information on that so I will call them on my own...Will let you know what I find out.

We have the same suspension as dsprik. I suppose it uses the same nylon bushings in the shackles?

We had the shackle problem with our 2003 Montana, too, but thought that had been rectified on the 2007 models. Not so?

Thanks, Rich! I went out yesterday to check mine. Hard to tell. Two of the heads on my bolts looked like they could be moving around very slightly - scratches on the shackle and a tiny gap between the head and the plate that is not there on the other bolt heads.

Steve, I will probably wait until the Rally to have the experts look at it. I have not heard of any problems with this newer Mor/Ryde setup, though. However, I also had not heard of anyone else having their front bedroom closet mirror tracks coming down either. Until Rich just mentioned his identical problem. So...

You really can't see the vinyl inserts. I will post what I find out. You would think the Mor-Ryde suspension would take some of the stress off the shackles???

If your shackle bolts don't have grease fittings then You have the same bushings and shackles as everyone else just a different equalizer.

I did call and speak to Gary Wheeler at Mor Ryde. He gave the seminar at last years rally. They will install the shackle hit at the factory for 348.00 installed. He says it is a 4/5 hour job (when done correctly)and you do need a appointment. There are openings during the rally week. We ARE going to have them installed.

Well boys and girls, the Dexter E-Z Flex kit was delivered at 5:55 PM yesterday and now It is installed. I've been a busy old man and it's 98 degrees out now. Glad I'm finished it's supposed to get well over 100 today.

If you aren't mechanically reclined, it might be better that you don't tackle this. But for us ole maintenance guys, it's no hill for a stepper. Would be nice if it weren't so hot though. The first side takes longer as you figure out a few tricks. Then the second side becomes a breeze.

Well today I towed her for the first time since the suspension improvements. Can you say SWEET? That was time and money well spent.

Checked our shackle bolts and found NO wear, was going to change them anyway as I was replacing the brakes because of finding them packed with grease, (another subject) Found the shackles had little wear but the nylon bushings were GONE and had metal to metal in every bearing.
Sorry but you need to pull the parts out to find this.

I will be installing the Equa Flex equalizer along with wet bolts on the spring ends soon.

Doing a search on Equa Flex, I see that there are numerous manufacturers who are installing the Equa Flex system right out of the chute. Wonder if Keystone will jump on the wagon soon! Sure makes a heck of a lot more sense to have a decent system installed at the factory rather than having to worry about when the OEM junk will fail.

I am not getting a comfortable feeling here. Hamrad; Tell me that close-up picture in your album doesn't say China on the equalizer. Cheap tires and minimal suspension components. Seems that lowest bidder for supply of parts might take precedence over quality and safety. Why should we be replacing brand new components to feel safe. Again we have a known weakness that costs very little to eliminate right from the factory. If those shackles are made in china, my bet is that they are poor quality steel. The replacements look like the original equipment should. The suspension, wheels, tires, brakes and hitch should not be a concern when you pay tens of $K for a trailer. The solutions to the road gear issues I am seeing here and in other posts are simple and relatively inexpensive. What are they waiting for?: Multiple fatalities, class action law suite or government imposed standards. Car companies recall vehicles at great expense for lesser problems.
