Top Burners Lighted Oven Didn't

During our initial trip out, the oven pilot or oven itself would not light. I understand that it may take some time for air to clear the lines, but we waited and waited with no results. Is there a check point to verify that the oven gas line is functional, or is there a hidden switch that I missed.

Most stoves require that you depress the knob while trying to ignite the pilot light, try holding it in while the thermo-coupler is heating up.

(Yes, I neglected to say that you have to use a hand held butane style igniter to light it...)

Our stove top lights with a "spark maker", but I light the oven by holding down the oven control button while on "pilot" and using a lighter wand to ignite the pilot. As long as the switch on the oven is not turned to "off", the pilot stays lit.

Question: does anyone light the oven pilot with the sparker used to ignite the top?

Sounds like the same stove configuration. Top burners light with rotary sparker (ignitor) that is the far right knob. So when I turn the oven knob to pilot light, the knob also has to be pressed in?? However, even if the pilot is not lit, shouldn't the main oven bar light with a lighter when the gas is turned beyond light pilot, say to 300 degrees or so?? Seems like I have lit Suburban ovens directly in the past without even using the pilot light??

Sue reports that you have to use a lighter as well.

No, you must use the pilot light. The pilot light heats the thermocouple which, in turn, allows the propane to flow to the oven burner.

This is our 3rd 5er and the ovens have all been the same. Have to light the pilot light. It is a pain and one of the reasons we love the convection oven so much. However, old dogs can learn new tricks and we didn't know until mentioned at the Minden rally that you can leave the pilot lit until you move.
Happy trails...................

The one and only time mine would not lite was after a trip from TX to MS I tried to lite it and it would not lite so I tried again and flames shot out and almost caught me on fire. It was the little the little gas line in the back of the oven that runs over to the pilot lite it had broke into. so just be careful if your pilot lite won't lite and check that line.
