basement doors
Has anyone else had a problem with their basement doors latching and locking? Leon has leveled the Monty as much as possible and we are still having a problem. Any suggestions?

Hi Charlotte,
I have taken the locks apart and in some cases bent the inside arm a little (usually away from the door)
They seem to work pretty good after you adjust them a little. Not hard to do.

Some of them take a little pressure on the door edge, just as you turn the key.

Agree with Don, a shoulder pressed to the door, put some weight to it, then turn the key. And Al has adjusted those little arms as well.

On the driver's side I had to replace the locking latch with one that had a longer catch. It appears the hole in the door was drilled about 1/8" too low for the OEM lock to catch on the door frame. Works fine now.

One of my doors had a screw in the way of that arm. I discovered it when my wife couldn't get it locked one day. I had been able to operate it by pushing on the area close to the lock, but a relocation of the screw fixed it.

You might check the inside lip where the latch catches onto as well. I had problems with the front cabinet and found the Dealer had mangled that lip out of shape when they put the generator in.

Thanks everyone! I have been man-handling (woman handling?) it. Leon will figure something out. I just wondered if anyone else had the same trouble.

Every once in awhile ours will get stubborn. As J&D suggested, usually it's just a matter of bending the arm a bit and checking the lip to make sure it's not bent out of shape.
