Weight vs Cargo Capacity

We have beaten the weight subject about to death, but I was wondering what the actual cargo capacity would be (using the 3400 as an example) if the rig was absolutely loaded out with all the heavy options...dual pane windows, metal slide trays, slide awnings, hi gloss, dinette/chairs, hide a bed, king bed, sofa table, second a/c, w/d, arctic insl, generator, fireplace, and anything else. The sticker on the 3400 (I think on all 3400s) says max cargo is 1519.

How much cargo capacity is left when the rig is loaded out?

Well, that would be mine, except for the Hi gloss, I would be interested as well.
I am a month or Two away from being able to weigh mine.
Good post.

Shame on you Cat--opening up the weight question again. Bad fella!!!

I haven't seen anyone post the max weight if all the options went on a 3400. I'll give you what I know or recall and see what others can contribute.

Rickfox reported that his delivered 2006 3400 weighed 11,860# without the Hi-Gloss gel-coat, dual pane windows, or 2d AC--and I assume without the generator or washer/dryer since he didn't mention them. He did have the quad slide awnings, 1 battery, full propane tanks, fireplace, sofa table, full (queen?) size bed and reportedly only a small amt (10#) of water. I don't recall at the moment whether he had the hide a bed.

Assume the hi gloss gel coat is 200#; I have heard estimates on the dual pane window weights from 200#-400#--I suspect the correct number is closer to the 200#, but it was a Montana guy who gave me the 400# estimate when I called them to discuss it. I think I've heard numbers for the second AC in the range of 100#. Washer/dryer numbers are going to vary depending on what you get. My guess would be in the 125#-175# range, but I'm sure someone has better numbers. I believe the metal slide tray is 85#. Generator weight again can vary depending on what you get--I recall someone saying the Onan weighed 285#.

Remember, however, that before you use that 1519# figure, it's based on Montana's 11,900# dry weight figure on the RVIA label, and no one knows just what options that includes, especially since it differs from the 11,650# dry weight number in the brochure.

Hope this helps.

Cat,
Let me see if I can help with part of the weight question. I dont have all the options but between all the numbers that have been posted, I bet we can get real close on the weight for you. Here is my coach w/ full water, propane, and battery, along with all my options.

Kingpin 1,770 lbs
Axles 10,230 lbs
Total 12,010 lbs

Options I do not have. (I did have 2nd a/c installed this spring)
Add approx 100 lbs for 2nd a/c.
Add approx 200 lbs for hi-gloss.
Add approx 150 lbs for washer/dryer
Add approx 300 lbs for dual pane windows

New total VWR is 12,760 lbs. If you subtract the 500 lbs of fresh water I had in the tank you would be in the ball park of 12,260 lbs.

13,975 - 12,260 = 1,715 lbs of CC for a new 3400RL with the options you have listed.

Thanks for the info.

Compared to the manufacturers on our 'short' list (Sunnybrook and NuWa), the Montana had the smallest cargo capability by far. The NuWa HitchHiker II models we liked had NCCs of 3600 and 3900 (GVWR 13,500); the Sunnybrook was almost 4000 (GVWR 15,000). These are brochure weight, so no tell what the 'real' NCCs are.

I wish Keystone would give us a more realistic carrying capacity. Taking the actual empty pinweight and adding it to axle capacity to get gvwr, then deducting actual trailer empty weight plus water and propane just does not give us a realistic number. And it has to hurt Keystone's sales, as well, for the reasons Cat320 mentioned.

See another Montana or Mountaineer on the road? Flash lights twice, it might be one of us!
