Air flow to bedroom

This is not a good time to be working on heat with it 100+ most everywhere, but a good time to get it done. It seems that is a common problem getting enough heat to the MONTANA bedroom.
I found that they take the easy way out by supporting the duct in the basement with tye wrap straps 3/16 wide which has a tendecy to bite into the thin flex duct and reduce the duct diameter by about 1/3, when marginal at best this is unacceptable and reduces the air flow considerably.
This will not replace the auxillary heater used by most, but every little bit helps.
Try a wider fibre strap after removing the plastic tyewraps and the duct will not be restricted.

I replaced as much of the flex pipe as I could with round pipe. All of the pipe in the storage areas is now steel so it doesn't get damaged and it does flow a little better.

We gave up and decided to use the cheap, magnetic vent covers found at Wal-Mart. Does a great job of pushing air up to the bedroom and keeping "little surprises" from our free-range turtle out of the vents.

Likewise, replaced all the flexible pipe with rigid, couldn't believe the diff in air flow to the bedroom vent. The flex pipe itself is ribbed and doesn't allow for good air flow. The job was actually very easy to do. In the 2955 I used 6 or 7 elbows and 2 lengths of pipe.

Thanks, Geneo, I'll check that on ours. Every little bit helps.

NJ Hillbilly and DarMar, how difficult is it to change over to the rigid ductwork?
Thanks.

Steve, the changeover was really quite easy on our 2955. The most time consuming was taking our stairs to the bedroom apart. Once the middle step is removed one could access several elbows to get the vent into the basement area. In our basement area I had to remove the front black chipboard box cover as well to line up all elbows. Once done in that area it was a piece of cake. Used duct tape and 2 screws on all the joins and copper strapping to suspend new ductwork. About 1.5 hours. I also found I used to poke some holes in the old ductwork as I was loading & unloading stuff from the basement, now just a small dent at most!!!
