EMS system

I bought the expensive EMS system prior to picking up our RV. It worked fine on our first two quick trips but when we got to our site this week and plugged in there was no power in the RV..... My husband removed it and then we had power. Has this happened to anyone else? Is it a faulty product? So far no problems.... Fingers crossed we don't have any issues...

Thank you!

I assume it has a digital readout that gives an error code that would explain what the problem is? I have had the same Progressive hardwired unit for over five years and have never had a problem with the unit itself. It will prevent power to the rig if there are a number of conditions that are present at the pedestal, but the error codes will tell what the problem is. For instance: low voltage, high voltage, improper ground, etc. If it truly failed, I was under the impression that there is a bypass switch that would allow power to enter the rig.

My husband said it gave him a code but the code wasn't listed on the unit and he couldn't find a reset switch. The park was full so we didn't have much choice. I'm going to try it on another post and see what it says. It's a portable Progressive so I'm told there is a life time warranty.

Thank you!

The bad part is if you got an error code, and simply decided to ignore it, you are taking a big risk regarding damage to the electronics in your rig. It may be okay, but it may not. Here is a link to the manual pages which contain the error codes:

That is what you pay for, protection from faulty electric pedestals.

I agree with Bingo. It was probably doing it's job but you removed it.

If it will not allow power to the rig there is a good reason for it. Hope you did nit break anything.

Yes you are correct that there is a good warranty and they stand behind it. If you can't understand the code call Progressive, but don't use that pedestal until you talk to progressive.

As an electrical contractor, I get calls to change a circuit breaker because it keeps tripping. It's doing it's job and there is always another reason for it tripping.

Well, it did it's job! If that was the last available site did you wonder why no one else was on it?

Why bother using one in the first place?

Like calls to replace a fuse that keeps blowing! Hello!!! The fuses aren't defective, there's something wrong with the wiring!

It is useful to other members of the forum to follow up with the resolution to a problem. Wondering if it was the pedestal and the EMS worked on another pedestal?

Sort of like having a Tire Monitoring system and igoring the indications of a tire losing air and keep on driving.

All good points. Luckily we had no problems during our stay - thank the Lord!!! Unfortunately my husband can be hard-headed at times and is sure he knows best......

Thank you Bingo for the link to the manual. I'm going to make hooking up the EMS my job in the future. This was only our second trip out so we are still learning.

Rich and Helen - I'm not sure if he remembers the code - I'll ask him and now that I have the link to the manual I'll look it up if he does. The control panel in the RV just showed an "E".

Thank you for all your guidance and patience!!!

As a follow-up I tested it on a post at our local campground. No errors it just cycled through its checks - which I hope is what my husband saw and just didn't know what it was. There was no PE showing which from the manual link Bingo provided (thanks again!!) means no prior error, if I'm reading it right.

Thanks everyone!
