Brake Wires

Just got our unit back from the dealer after some small warrantee item.
Crawled under it for the first time, and found the brake wires that come from the underbelly (Truck cable) hanging down resting on the Springs. Fixed then so they are not touching anything where they could short out.

I originally went under to chech the LP lines and they were OK. While also looking around, checked the battery water (OK) and the Landing pad motor (found 2 of 4 Philips Screws about 1/4 turn loose. Also checked to makes sure the Ground wire on the Slide pump was connected to a good ground. Next time I'm out here (tomorrow) will check the ground strip behind the Circuit braker box to make sure they are all tight (after disconnection power and batteries).

Good idea, Bob. Many of us had to tighten and attach wires and hoses to our units. Good thing you are handy and can do these fixes yourself.

Just make sure you didn't take all the slack out of the brake wires. There needs to be some "extra" there so they don't get yanked when suspension moves.

I had my dealer install (you can do it yourself) flexible plastic conduit, like on wires in autos. This allows plenty of slack and protects from wear agaqinst the springs or anything else for that mater.

Two of the screws on the landing gear motor are small screws holding the motor and the motor's gear box together. These are normally tight. The other two larger screws, top right, bottom left, keeps the motor engaged onto the shaft that drives the landing gear. This shaft has a pin through it that the motor catches to turn it. It's the same on the other end of the shaft where the manual crank goes on, which also has the cross pin that the manual crank engages. These two screws are normally tight in the threads of the plastic case, BUT are not intended not be bottomed out. These are to be loose enough to give the motor play, so it can aleign itself on the shaft correctly without extra stress on the motor due to binding. I would suggest that you leave these slightly loose so the motor is able to move a little. If you have already threaded them in all the way and now are going to back them out a little, they may no longer hold snuggly in the threads, so you will need to check them periodically to make sure they aren't backing out.

Just a second reply to be sure you leave slack in the brake wires coming from the bottom of the RV. There is a lot of flex in the axles and we lost our brakes one time because there wasn't enough slack in the wires and they pulled loose.
