Something hit us!
While camping this weekend we were sitting inside catching a show on tv, when we heard a strange like "bing" noise, we both looked at each other and said, "What was that?" Well we didnt hear anymore so we ended up calling it a night and going to bed. Next day we got up and found this..we know it was not there previous b/c hubby had just wiped off some dirt that collects on the back. The only think we could figure is that weird sound was this hitting the back cap of our Monty. We were in a private campground, in front of us was a country road. We are thinking some kind of air gun or rock. There was an RV repair guy in the park and came to look at it. He said that it was not a stress crack(which we thought maybe)and he said it looked to him like either a rock or some type of gun. What do you all think? The link is a pic of the damage.

Wow! We sure are glad that the two of you are ok. That does look as though something hit it. It should be an easy fix for a good fibreglass guy.

YIKES
Did you file a police report?? Might want to think about that if you have not.
As to what caused it, what do I know, but looks like a rock or something small that was moving fast.
Scary stuff, eh?? Glad you are OK

That looks like a multiple strike hit area. Does not appear to be a gunshot..... I think you would have actually had a deep penetrating hole if it was. Please let us know what you end up finding out about this. If it is on the rear of the coach it couldn't have been a rock thrown up by another vehicle could it?

It is on the end on the coach but we are certain that it was not caused when traveling. Hubby checked the back of camper that day after we were all set up.. The rv repair guy said that it would be an easy fix...which we are happy. Yes we reported it..the campground a couple of years ago had alot of rv's broke into..and the owners were pretty sure it was someone close. There are a few homes across the road...neighbors here were not to happy with the campground we were told. Sad that you have to be leary of something like this.

So sorry about the damage to your Monty.
Just never know when something is going to happen, accident or people caused.
How far from the road were you when parked?

It has multiple penetrations into the gel coat. I am guessing a slingshot with shot loading. I had a slingshot that you could load a little box with several small lead balls to shoot quail and other small game. Whatever it was, if it was deliberate the perps deserve a good swift kick in the butt as well as some jail time.
The big picture window may have been the target. If so the loser that attempted the vandalism lived up to his reputation.

Wrenchtraveller,
Good idea about the slingshot. You may have hit the nail on the head!

We were not far from the road there was about 20-25 ft then the road. A slingshot? You know it might have been one b/c of the multiple penetrations into the gel coat.

Did you notice anything on the ground? Pellets or ball bearing type things? There should have been some residue of some sort laying around the area.
Good luck.

I am in no way a forenzic expert, but it looks like something other than a rock. A sling shot pellet or perhaps a ricochete off a gun projectile. I may be seeing it wrong, but looks like it came downward from an angle above the Monty.
