tire wear

we have a 2004 2955, and the inside of the tires are showing more wear than the outside. i understand that the axles are designed to work with a certain load and are prearched and will true them selves under a load. it looks as though they have went beyond and are allowing the tires to wear incorrectly.

any helpfull ideas?

thanks, jim

It could be that the axles are not aligned properly. There were some postings some time ago talking about the same thing as you are experiencing. In fact my axles were aligned such that I had the same tire wear problems. But I didn't like those axles anyway so I had Mor/Ryde Independent Suspension axles installe. Result: normal tire wear after some 40k miles. I've had to replace tires because I don't want to take any chances. When my tires are 4 years old they get replaced.

Since I have a 2002 2955RL with over 40,000 miles I will simply add my experience to this discussion. Less than a year ago, I replaced my original tires on the trailer ONLY because I prefer to be on the safe side as far as ageing goes. There was absolutely NO unusual wear on the treads. I replaced the tires with exactly the same brand and specifications as the original tires (Maxxis).

My only reason for this comment is that wear patterns must indicate some problem with suspension.

That sounds like axle alignment. We had a similar situation. Axle realignment solved the problem. It cost me $75 per axle for the alignment at a reliable service facility in Elkhart, IN. We've put on probably 30k miles since then. Just be sure you go to someone who knows how to realign rv axles.
