Loaded weights of my Montana.

I was able to get on a government weigh scale on my trip home and I was real happy to see that all my numbers are in the legal parameters of both my TV and my Monty.

If you read my posts , you know I put a lot of research into buying a rig that would not be overweight and I was really worried that the 5080 pound axles on my 2955RL might be overloaded as I knew we would be travelling heavy. As you will see below, these axles are fine on this size of unit.

First of all let me say I have about 300 pounds of tools and I have a auxiliary fuel tank that holds 50 gals. Both fuel tanks were full.
I also have the Splendide washer/dryer up over the hitch and you will see by the weights , the 2955 RL puts a lot of your payload on the pin.
We also had on way more groceries and other things that we could have left behind and my fresh water tank was even full so the weights below
are much heavier than most people would travel with.

Front truck axle was 4750 pounds, rear truck axle was 6314 pounds.
The Montanas axles were 9724 pounds so my rigs combined weight was
20768 pounds, my GCWR is 21000 pounds so I am still fine.

The pin weight was 2602 so adding the 9720 pounds for the axles put the Monty's loaded weight at 12326 pounds so this puts the Monty about 160 pounds overweight and If I was concerned I could just travel with half a tank of fresh water.

My truck GVW was 11044 pounds and my GVWR is 11200 so I was 156 pounds under that. In 05 Ford made their GVW ratings model and engine specific and a diesel has a heavier rating yet to compensate for the heavier weight of the diesel engine.

Also if I had ordered 4.30 gears, I would have had a 23000 pound combined rating.

In closing, I am very pleased with the weights and this unit feels much lighter than it is. The pinweight empty was only 1940 and we added around 1500 pounds of payload and over 600 pounds of this goes on the pin.

The Montana handles incredibly well in high winds and this is my first high profile Fiver so I was pleasanty surprized about this fact.

It's always nice to know that you are within MFGR specification limits. Good post but I have your GVW as 4750 plus 6314 = 11,064. Still under the GVWR.

I have your GCW 4750 plus 6314 plus 9724 = 20788

Small differences.

Wrenchtraveler, good post. I was surprised when you said your F350 has gcwr of 21,000 since my 6.0 powerstroke F250 with 3.73 rear gears has gcwr of 23,000. You must have the V10? I'm still surprised the gcwr is lower, though. In any case, thanks for the post. My F250's gvwr is less than yours, at 10,000, though.

Tom, you are better at math than I am and my calculator was out in the Monty when I put up that post..........and I had not had my morning cup of coffee yet. Thanks for setting me straight.

Steve, yes I have the V10 because I did have bad luck with my 04 PSD.

The huge number of 05 PSDS I saw on this trip does help convince me that
the 6.0 has a lot of fans and I had to order my V10 as they are a rare engine in a SD Ford. Take care .
