Water pump cycles

On our RK3000 the water pump runs for a second or two about every 3-4 hours. The service department says this is normal but I'm not sure I belive them. Anyone else have this problem, is this normal?

It is normal operation in every RV I have owned. You do not leave it on when you are hooked up to city water do you? Most of the time we shut the pump off when we are not needing the water.

We had the same problem but a much shorter time interval (about 30 minutes) Found a VERY slow drip caused by a leaky washer in the bath room sink. Relpaced it and don't have any recylcing unless actually using water. When the pump recycles it has sensed a drop in water pressure. That has to have been caused by a leak someplace.

Our TT never did that, and Montana rarely does it. usually it can indicate a leak, small, medium or larger. We have not discovered any leak in Montana, so not sure why she does this a couple of times a day, but NOT all days. Maybe she is just being contankerous!

My Mountaineer did that when the pump sensed a drop in water pressure. As mentioned I had a small drip problem with the bathroom sink faucet. Once that was replaced, never heard from the pump again. So far no problems with the Montana, but most of the year I am hooked to city water.

The shop found a very slow leak in the water heater pressure relief valve. They replaced it so hopefully its fixed.

Could be the check valve that is the pump leaking back from a speck of dirt or debris. The pumps that come with the trailers are NOT high end pumps. We have the Sure-Flo Smart Sensor and like it much better. The check valve that is in the pump is just a rubber flapper and then the pressure sensor. That why it comes on for very short time. Wakes you up at night? You can shut it off and good idea is to shut it off when not at the camper[day trip].
