Progressive Industries EMS-PT50X on 30amp?

Bought a new 2017 Monty 3810ms. It's going to get Parked on a year round site that currently on has soft power at 30 amp service. I hear the protectors are well worth the $, but given we may be moved next year to 50amp, I'd like to just get the new 50amp protector. Is this going to do anything for us on a 30 amp service? Any value, or wait til we eventually get to a 50amp service before buying? I am not buying a 30 for one season given the cost. Will a 50 amp surge protector work on a 30amp line, is there a way to set it for 30? Thanks for any advice in advance!

Get the 50 amp one and go ahead and plug it in to the 30 amp. It will not hurt a thing and will give you all of the same protection as if plugged into 50 amp. You will not have any problems doing this!

Remember you will need an adapter though to go from 30 amp to 50 amp! The unit itself will work just fine.

Thanks that's good to know. I'm assuming the main benefit is the low or high voltage protection for our ac units and electronics? Plus it's nice to know how many amps one is actually drawing when trying to live off 30amps lol!

We've done this with ours many times and it also protects us from misswired pedestals which we have found more than once.

We have the 50 amp Hardwired unit and it even works when reduced all the way down to 15 amp service.

Thanks! Can you watch the screen to determine real time voltage draw? I think it would be great to see whe we draw enough to to trip the breaker on 30amp service. Like monitoring when one AC is running and seeing what else we ca run without tripping like coffee maker, hair dryer, , micro...all of which I don't thing will run when one ac is one at 30amps

On my hardwired unit, if you run the LED display inside (well anywhere really) you can watch your amp draw and check current voltage and any current or previous errors (1 previous).

Oh, yes, it constantly cycles giving you at-the-moment voltage draw. Sometimes if there isn't anything good on the tube, I watch the monitor. Kinda like staring at an aquarium!

Bought the newest 50amp Ems unit. Anyone have experience with using a cheater system to get 50amps out of two,30 connections or a 30 and a 20 amp on separate lines? I ordered progressives cheater as well as I think our site has two separate 30amp services at same post. Curious of this works?

I have one of the cheaters but I have not been able to get it to work. If I plug into a 20 amp ground fault receptacle with one leg of the cheater the ground fault trips on the receptacle.

You do understand that you are only going to get 30 amps on one leg and 20 amps on the other leg using the cheater to plug into a 30 amp plug and a 20 amp plug, right?!

Plugging into 2 30 amp plugs will only give you 30 amps on each leg.

Plugging into a 50 amp plug gives you 50 amps on both legs of your system. Another way of putting this is, you have 100 amps available in that 50 amp plug.....50 amps on each leg.

I am sure someone else here can explain this better if this doesn't make sense.

by cheater, do you mean adapter? Also you can not plug into a GFCI plug it will trip because neutral and ground are bonded at the electrical panel in your home, and then again in the RV creating a neutral ground bond loop and this will trip a GFCI. at least this is the way it was explained to me. I am not an electrician...

Don't feel too bad, I wasted money on one of those "cheaters" too!
