Frame Splice???

While cleaning under my 2020 Montana RL3021 I saw something that surprised me. There is an obvious split or break in the frame and there was a metal piece welded over the split. Honestly, it looks and feel very solid so not sure if this is nothing to worry about, but I also would like to know if anyone else has seen this. We have towed it through 15 states with no issues, yet. It has to have come from the factory this way as we are the original owners. I am going to talk to Montana about it so it is at least logged into their system. Is this something normal that Keystone does??

Could it be an area where frame flex is a know issue & they beefed it up with a steel plate . Can you use a mirror to see if any cracks on other side of splice?

You are probably wasting your time even considering talking to Keystone about this. If you really wanted to chat with someone, if they were even willing, Lippert would be the ones to contact. If the frame is still intact and solid with that splice, I doubt there would be much to challenge, as whatever they did worked, and they probably don't even document which frames were delivered with a spliced frame because it is apparently a non issue. If the splice or reinforcement is intentional, they may consider it a design feature that prevents problems. After experiencing a broken frame, just forward of the drivers side propane cylinder, some years ago, I wish they had added additional support and better welding.

If you need to discuss with a manufacturer, LCI (Lippert) builds the frames. You may still have the sticker with the frame build number on it. Our HC has a good size sticker on the right front just about under our bedroom window giving the LCI info. With that said, probably a non issue.

On the older units like my 2013, there were plates added on the side of the frame by the spring hangers to beef it up. Could that be what you are looking at?

After a closer look I believe it was an extra piece running along the holding tank for extra support. In other words it was intentional and for good reason. It just looked kind of strange at first glance.
