Hydraulic Hose Emergency Repair
After doing considerable research and minus any help from Lippert in spite of 2 emails to their customer service, I have found Field Repair fittings for the hose in our Montana's.
The fittings are from Parker and will likely not be available just anywhere but should be able to be ordered from any decent hydraulic repair facility.
The hose end Parker number is: 20651-4-4 This can be used to repair a leak near a fitting.
The adapter fitting Parker number is: 9393-4-4 This could be used where a hose might break or be leaking anywhere along the hose by using two of the hose ends and this joining adapter.
All that is needed is a couple of wrenches and something to cut the hose cleanly where the new fitting will go on.
Here is a picture of 4 hose ends and 2 adapters I will now be carrying with me wherever I go in the Montana.

These are non-skive fittings. Meaning the outside sleeve will go over the hose without using a special tool to peel some of the outside skin off the hose. Just make sure you thread the outside sleeve on up to the little hash mark that you see in the photo or it can blow apart. It also goes in a little easier if you put a drop of oil on the inter fitting.

It is important to have a nice square cut on the hose, you can mark your hose and make sure it threads to that depth or until it bottoms out, this part is left hand thread and the part that screws into the inside of the hose is right hand thread. Adding a little lubricant to the outside and inside of the hose does help. It is a bit difficult to grip the hose when screwing that fitting on, so use gloves to help with that.

Do I understand the picture, you have 4 hose ends and 2 fittings that will go between the hose ends.
In reality you only need 2 hose ends and 1 fitting to join the 2 hose ends?
Right? Is the hose a item that fails and we need a repair kit for it?

Jim there have been many cases of hydraulic hose failure, particularly at or near fittings. Yes your observation is correct you only need 2 hose ends and one union to fix a hose, I bought an extra one in case someone else I come across has a problem. That way I earn brownie points and still have one for myself....

While the job can be done without a mandrel it is much easier with one and they aren’t expensive. You can order them from any hydraulic shop the sells Parker hydraulic products.

How about in addition to the hose fittings, we get a 5' piece of hose. I notice that some on my hoses do not have much "slack" in them, and if they fail at the end, I would need to extend them a bit to get them re-connected.

If one wanted to add a piece of both the black and orange hose to the repair kit it is Thermoplastic 100R7-4 for the orange and 100R7-4BK for the black.
This is the type and size (1/4")
Both will be available at some hydraulic shops and here is a website that sells it by the ft. I don't think the black is "nonconductive" as is the orange.

Will these work for both the slides and level-up systems?
Are they considered temp fixes or permanent fixes?

Chuck: These are "field repair" fittings, they are used commonly in the hydraulic industry but are not necessarily meant as a permanent repair.
The hydraulic fittings on my Montana are all the same whether on the level up or the slides so I would assume they would be on yours as well.
I think if I had to repair a hose I would not consider this a permanent fix and would likely get a new hose made up when convenient. They are intended to get you out of a jam although they might last as long as the original equipment "stuff".

Hi I saw a couple of questions about these Hyd fittings, that I may be able to address. Back in Feb 2013 a rat in our front compartment chewed through two of the slide Hoses, needless to say they wouldn't close and lost a lot of fluid. I found a couple of barbed couples and clamps for a temp fix. Then while at the Camping World in Bakersfield, I called a local Hyd company and they told me of the fittings in this post. I installed and Have virtually forgot about them and Have run the slide many times without and problem. I Ran a Water Well Drilling outfit for 19 yrs and we used them on the rigs and also forgot about some of them. Never had any more problems, with leakage for those yrs. Hope this helps.
