BOX RAIL DAMAGE

We finally got our rig out for a 3 day jaunt to beautiful Georgian Bay(part of Lake Huron). We have a new-to-us 2011 F350 LB with the old SuperGlide hitch from our 2005 F350SB. While pulling out turning right from a fuel station I jumped the curb and down came the corner of the 5r on the drivers side rail at the rear, damaging it. These F350s are too high at the rear due to the 4" axle blocks. On the 2005 I had these blocks changed to the F250 blocks which are 2" high and had no problem so that will be done on this 2011. Today I'm getting an estimate and will let the forum know how much a curb-jump costs me. As annoying as this is, we keep in mind that others have far worse problems on the road and give a prayer of thanks for many thousands of safe miles and another prayer in support of those who have real problems.

Please post what it cost to have the 4" blocks replaced with 2" on the new truck. I did the same on my '07 F350, but the dealer did it at no cost to me (after much argument) since I specifically told the salesman I would be towing a 5th wheel and Ford had a TSB at the time advising that some F250/350 4x4 may be too high in the rear for a 5th wheel. Salesman never told me about the TSB.

I have considered, but not pursued, having it done on my 2012 F350. I really better liked the way the '07 sat with the 2" blocks than the 4" blocks.

If it was me, I'd get it done ASAP. I'm thinking the cost would be less than paying for the damage after the fact, IMHO. Good luck to you no matter what you decide to do.

Really sorry that happened John. I have to say I really admire your positive outlook on it though - perspective is everything. I know I wouldn't have been able to take it in stride so well.

Got an estimate yesterday and guess what?- $1000.00 which is my deductible amount. Cost of changing blocks in 2007 on my last truck was $80.00, blocks and all at a spring shop. This time I'll do the job myself as I have the skills, the tools, and the time.
