Wind energy for RVs?
Came across this new invention that's been through field trials and is going into production. 750mm in diameter (just under 30") and generates 200w quietly. Doesn't say how much it weighs, but shouldn't be too much!

When they advance to the point where they power the truck sufficiently to pull the rig without having to buy diesel, then count me in. Until then, our electric comes free with the full-hookup sites so for us it is a non-choice.

I would like to have some wind or solar power but I live in the woods in Virginia where there isn't much wind. Oh well.

Actually, out here on the plains we get enough wind to make that an interesting option.

Same with us. We don't dry camp and almost always stay where there is full hook ups.

Bingo and Joe-- You got to live a little and do some boondocking! Nothing like it!
I wouldn't mind having a couple or even 6 or 7 to put out at the farm. We always have enough breeze out there to power the whole farm if need be and we can arrange with the local power company to sell any extra power generated back to them. Only problem is they don't pay as much for the power purchased as they we pay them for the power used. Best thing is that the use of THEIR power would be near to zero if done correctly.

I will actually be adding a wind turbine to my solar setup later this summer. This will basically be a supplement to the solar to provide back up charging during extended overcast periods or at night trying to take advantage of every bit of mother nature. Every little bit helps.
The plan is to use a portable telescoping pole (flag) with a base and a 40 kW/ month turbine. I will update with pics when we start the project.

We are hoping that this combined with our solar will give us all the power we need during our planned extended boondocking in Quartzite during the winter months.

I would not have a problem with it, the rig has generator built-in, dual batteries, it is set up. I would have to drag the women kicking and screaming simply because of the water rationing involved. They will not go willingly.........

Les, that looks very interesting. I saw a couple of similar units in use in the BLM areas north of Yuma last year. Will look forward to seeing your set up this winter.

Since we don't have a stick built anymore, we always looks for full hook-ups. That is not to say we would never dry camp in the future. If we did it would have to be some special place on our bucket list that we couldn't live without.
