U Bolts Again !

When I had my 3400 at the dealer I asked him to check the torque of my u bolts. He said he called Dexter and they said 95 ft lbs. I see other posts where people are saying 65 ft lbs. The dexter manual says 45-70 for a 1/2 inch u bolt and 65-95 for a 9/16 u bolt. What do 2009 3400`s come with? Are they 7k pound axles? Thanks!

Based on the manufacturers specs on the 3400 I doubt you have 7000 lb axles unless they was specifically special ordered. On my Lippert 6000 lbs axles the required torque is 65 lbs.

I think, pretty sure in fact, that Keystone went with the 7k axles on the 07's and above. This is what I was

told by Keystone while at the service center in late '08.

We have a 09 3400Rl with 7000 lb axles. The u-bolts are 1/2 inch and the torque is 65lbs. We retorqued last year after about 6 months of use and have not had to tighten any more. If you continue to retorque to frequent, the grade 5 bolts will only stretch beyond their yield point.

We have a 07 3400 and our axles and u bolts are the same as 8e3kO's.
