Back flow under Master Bath sink?

Can someone help me? I have a leak under the sink above. I see it is coming from what I think is a back flow. I removed the carpeted box and see a blue tube/cold, red tube/hot, and two white tubes that are connected at the top (18" tall) by a black plastic gizmo that looks like a vent. Can it be cleaned to operate properly, replaced or bypassed and the heck with the back flow? Thanks in advanced. Tony
