Towing with the Level up system?

I looked at a 3700RL at Camping World the other day and saw that it had the Level up system installed on it. The first thing I thought was man if I had those on my trailer and were they were hanging that low I would have torn the front and back units off many times by now. So my question is has anyone had this problem or is it something you do not have to worry about.

Odd you mention it. In the four forums I belong to I've never heard of it, but you would think it could happen.

It looks like it hangs so lo-ow. Momma sure did like the layout of that 3700RL!!

I was so close a couple of weeks ago I was worried about my landing gear and stabilizers dragging. So I was just wondering if anyone had thought about it.

The front ends are the same on all Montana - the 3700 is not unique. Any Montana with the Lippert leveling system has the same ground clearance. To date there has been no reported problems wit dragging the landing legs.

Tell momma your excuse for not buying has been repudiated and she can order that 3700 she desires

Larry,
The jacks are located pretty close to the wheels (and at the very front) not at the rear. After my "turn around" incident I was worried about the jacks being trashed but had zero damage to them. If ever they were going to drag they would have done so during this process! I doubt we'll ever hear of them being damaged by dragging. I think the only way they would be in danger would be if one were to run over something. Good luck, Dennis.

We just "tested" ours. We have parked our 3402 on property off the beaten path so to say. Some might call the road a "two-track". I was worried about the last hill just before our driveway as it has quite a crest to it. All jacks cleared just fine. That hill and Hanna sure did work Vinnie(diesel) though. A lot of worrying on my part about getting it set up, but the reward was well woth it. We love Northern Michigan in the fall season. I'll try to post some pictures so you all can see what I mean.

So it sounds like nobody is to concerned about the levers. I have to admit that 3700RL did look like it could work for me also. The only reason I wanted to look at a newer model was to see if they still use the HTPE strip under the slides when they drop down to allow for the floor to lay flat. I see they still do use the strip but mine has a 1/4" gouge on the forward end that I need to figure out what to do with. That end of my slide wants to pop up one time when I bring that slide in.

I know what you mean Larry, the first thing I thought when I saw our rig was how low the levelers were to the ground and thought for sure the were going to hit pavement. So far so good. Actually my lowest spot is the exhaust pipe for the generator - it is even lower by just a bit and I keep that in the back of my mind when going in and out of entrances with a dip.

Just take a close look at the jack locations. The Front Landing Jacks are only a few feet behind the bumper of the TV so you would almost have to drag the rear of the TV before the landing gear would hit. The same for the rear jacks, one set in front of the axles, the other set behind the axles. Think you would have to drag the spare tire long before the rear jacks we in danger, and as for the middle jacks the front of the rig would just about have to be sitting on the ground before they could touch. Many miles on our Montana and now many miles on our SOB with no problems. Go for it and don't look back.

The only time you will have a problem is if you jump a pretty high curb. The abrupt change in elevation will certainly damage them. The curb height has to be greater than the distance from the Jack pad to the road surface when parked on a flat section of road surface.

Unfounded concern. LevelUp is an excellent system.

I also have some concerns about coming off ferries, had no problem on the Newfoundland ferry, but the angle wasn't that great. Still have some concerns if we ever take our trailer back to Vancouver Island it we land on a low tide.

Mamestra,
You will drag the rear end of your rig long before you'll ever drag the jacks. Your jacks may hit on something you run over but that is another problem. HamRad

I agree with HAMRAD... if you took a straight edge (like a yard stick)and angled it from where any tires meet the ground and up towards the bottoms of the levelers, you'd probably see that it would require one heck of an angle before a problem arose and there'd be a lot of other parts like the truck or the trailer getting damaged before the levelers got affected.

On the other hand like things that hang downwards if you run over something that could get whipped around then the levelers could add to the potential damage. So don't run over anything loose. I would guess the odds of something that bad happening would be far outweighed by the benefits of having any brand of leveling system.

It's on my list (not necessarily that brand) but way at the bottom but only because of cost. Of note, I don't raise my simple landing gear up so high any more and have had no problems catching on anything.

Ours are new, but we went over some very tall and narrow speed bumps in the Elkhart Campground with no issues.
