Durmax fuel filter
Hello All, where do you take your Duramax for fuel filter replacement? Dealer, fast lube stops or do it yourself. Have watched utube demo's but need some feedback from the pros. Thanks

I buy my filter from the dealer and replace it myself. Filter cost $38.00. If the dealer does it, the filter cost $52.00 plus $85.00 for labor and $10.00 for disposal fee and misc shop supplies. It is easy to do. I don't travel without a spare. Most of the time when you have a problem it is the fuel filter.

I always had dealership take care of it every other oil change (10k miles). They usually gave me a discount for doing the LOF and Filter at the same time.

In the past I bought mine off the internet. I got my filters from www.kennedydiesel.com . Always a good turn around time and the cost was fair.

Do it yourself! The easy way is to take the plasic wheel well partialy out of your way. Fill new filter with diesel so you don't have to prime new filter so much, I have a 2005 truck.

Make sure you use the AC/Delco filter. Especially if you have a LB7 engine. They filter down to 2 microns. Aftermarket filters may not filter down as low and you will ruin your injectors ($5000+ repair).

Hi
Drop it off at the dealer when On Star tells us to and go get breakfast while they do the oil, fuel filter and rotated the tires.

I replace all fluids, oils and filters myself. Learned how to do everything as a kid, as my dad owned a service station when I was a teenager.

Until we got the Freightliner I always changed Oil in everything, cars, Trucks, John Deere equipment. I now only change oil in the John Deere equipment. The hassle was taking the used oil to the oil recovery place. The Freightliner held 7 gals!!!!!
I now buy my on Oil and Filters and take it to town and get all the Filters and oil change for $20.00 on the Duramax and I don't have to worry about the used oil and filters.... I don't use the Dealerships... But again its a choice.. Happy Trails....
P.S. I normally buy my Oil on sell and will buy 30 to 40 gals in all. My oil comes from Wally World....

That's where I get mine too. Also, you can turn in all your old oil at WM, they'll recycle it...no charge.

I bought the fuel filter access door on e-bay.
After installing that simply follow the instructions on the Duramax owners forum.

I've serviced our vehicles all my life. I'm retired now, I do what Phil said,"take it to the dealer and go eat breakfast". Larry

I change oil & fuel filters myself,I don`t trust dealers after I took my new 1968 Toronado to the dealer for an oil change and when I got on the hi-way the oil plug fell out. After that I won`t let a dealer touch my truck or car.
