Trip Planner

We lost our Delorme Trip Planner to a damaged hard drive. Are there any laptop programs available now that we can print out routes, miles and times?

Tks, Jonni & Raymond Kleinlein

I like RV Life Trip Wizard (tripwizard.rvlife.com). It makes it easy to find campgrounds and other POIs. You can set up travel parameters to find campgrounds within a predetermined distance, say 250 miles, and you can read campground reviews and browse campground photos. It has several print formats that are very useful. It’s the only app I’m willing to pay for. You Can do a 7 day trial to see if you like it enough to pay for it.

I am still using a 2011 program called Trailer Life Directory Campground Navigator. It was partnered with Good Sam and used their ratings of campgrounds. The next year Good Sam broke off the partnership. So my list of campgrounds is old. BUT what I like is it travels with me and I don't need the internet (which is weak or missing) at some campgrounds.
It does everything the trip planner does so I am sad it isn't up to date. I have looked at Trip Planner and it seems somewhat difficult and maybe slow. No other real options out there tho.
Good luck.
p.s. my Navigator pgm did issue a newer version in 2013 but no longer rated the campgrounds.

Jonni and Ray, sorry to hear about your loss of Delorme Trip Planner. The good news is there are options. We used to use Delorme and Microsoft trip planning software. I still have Delorme Topo USA on my Mac. I still had the disks. So, if you want to continue using Delorme you can reinstall if you still have the disk or a key. However, when planning a trip with that type of software, you also need a campground guide. RV Trip Wizard as mentioned earlier is our go to app. It does routing, has almost every campground/point of interest and will track your expenses. If you want to do it the old way, you can use multipoint routing in Google Maps. Or, Garmin has trip routing capabilities in base camp. You just need to decide what features are important to you.

I use RV Life, excellent app and works on all platforms. Love it and the RV GPS that comes with it.

Another thumbs up for RV Trip Wizard. I use that for trip planning and then the Garmin 770 RV GPS on the road.

I use RVPARKY.COM. RV Life gave me a free subscription to their RV Trip Wizard. I’ve found both to be pretty good at calculating distances, MPG, and finding parks. The one big difference is mapping. Using RVPARKY to travel from W Yellowstone to E Yellowstone, the app takes me N around the outside of the park (350 mi). RV Trip Wizard takes me through the park (175 mi). I gave both apps the same Rig configuration. So I give Trip Wizard a slight edge.

I'm still using TLDCN 2011. The only thing wrong at this point is that the embedded calendar expired. So, one has to use dates starting in a year that matches the current year. For 2022 I am using the calendar from 2011. Match up leap years and the days of the week for one or two months and you are all set. Since TLDCN 2011 is no longer available, RV Life Trip Wizard. The Good Sam web site will help you find campgrounds but it doesn't have a trip planner.

RV Trip Wizard is absolutely the best and easiest to use. Its taken us to the Keys from Arizona and to South Dakota and Montana. Don't leave ho e without it. No offense but using a program that is 11 years old could be a real problem

Good Sam does have a Trip Planner. I used it before I found RTW. However, it isn't (or wasn't at that time) nearly as comprehensive and also tends to ignore other travel club campgrounds, like KOA, etc. To me there is no comparison.

If the computer is worth saving replacing the disk is not a big deal. Unless it's a Microsoft Surface, Those are very hard to replace. I've got one with a bad battery and it's just not worth repairing.

If you kept your Delorme documentation or even just the software key it can be re-installed.

I am looking also

We currently use RVtrip wizard and love the planning side of it. It is really easy and lots options to customize to get exactly what you want. The routing is a different story, it has taken us on back roads we had no business being on and one goat trail that I was lucky to get my 5th wheel out of. The rvGPS in RV life also has a lot to be desired, we are going through SC on a 6 lane highway, it keeps telling us stay left, stay left, stay left so we exit either the three lanes left, no wrong answer, it once had two blue lines on the map, I guess you pick one, it told me to go right, then recalculates and tells me to turn on blueberry lane, guess what, dead end, she simply says make a U-turn on a road that is 3’ wider than the 5th wheel, 3 trailers with driveways narrower than the road. We are looking for something else but have not found it yet. You really have to pay attention to road numbers and not listen to her directions.

Agree Spec56 that an 11 year old program COULD be a problem. When it was new and being updated regularly I used it for route planning. Once they stopped doing updates I switched to only using it to generate a trip profile that gives me the distances I want to travel each day, track dates and to select RV parks. Some of the RV park info is outdated and I have to look at the Good Sam site to get the new name of the RV park or, in some cases, to find out that it no longer exists. Actual routing is done with a Garmin RV 660 which I use to navigate from RV park to RV park. That keeps me on roads suitable for my rig. I update the Garmin before every trip so I have the most current info.

I use Roadtrippers.com - it is a pay site if you want to do more than 5 stops in a trip, but has many features that work great for RVs. I've planned several cross country road trips with it
