Rich, You need a Mobile Suite like a friend of ours has. He plugged his almost new unit in a couple months ago and everything in it that had an elect. connection burned up. He lost the washer, tv and all electronic equipment convection oven etc. He called the factory and they told him to bring it to them. He sat at the factory for two and a half weeks in motel and has since had to return to have them finish replacing some of the equip. He loves his unit even after all that. They all can have problems as you know.

Well we had 4 Rv's before the two Montana's all different brands and the only difference was that we used the two Montana's far more then the previous 4. we have traveled over 80K miles between these two Montana's and have lived in them 6 months steady in the winter and at least two months in the summer attending rallies and other travel. I doubt that we put 10K miles on the previous 4 rv's combined over 15 years and never spent more than 2 weeks at a time in any of them. We only used the previous 4 during the warm months usually got them out of storage in March or April and returned them back to storage by Mid September or early October. Or use was weekend camping with our local camping group and if lucky maybe a two week vacation during the summer . We never traveled more than 300 miles to a vacation destination usually less. We had bent axles on a Coachman and a window leak on a Fleetwood.
in 15 years. That we would have such bad luck on two straight Montana's is stretching the odds.

Anyhow on this day December 18, 2014 at 1:54PM everything is working properly on this Montana . Of course we have not moved it and we check under
the camper every time we exit for water running out of the under belly. Helen installed the new door lock yesterday so we have a front door that locks. We are hoping for a trip to Yellowstone this summer not a lot of confidence that we will make it. Our last summer trip was cancelled due to the Montana spending 9 weeks at the dealership.

If you have a 2014 or 2015 unit with a Suburban hot water tank check the Model number. The SW-12DEl is a new model that the techs from Camping connection had not seen before and they work on a huge number of Rv's. The SW-12DEl had two junction boxes on the tank 12V and 120V. Also check your owners manual as the one in My 2013 3402 was the incorrect manual. Give Suburban a call at 423-775-2131 and they will E mail you the correct manual.

The wiring to the 120V junction box was poorly done by Keystone and was the cause of the problem. If you have the expertise you might want to check the wiring and maybe avoid a future problem. They also cleaned up and tie wrapped the wiring in that area as it was a rats nest.

Rich, How did they get to the junction box? Did they have to tear the cabinet out?

On the 3402 they removed the white paneling behind the convenience center and rear wall and since the repair guy was a small person he was able to squeeze in there and get to the junction box. The junction boxes are on both sides of the tank. The 12V junction box is on the left side (looking at the tank from the front) and the 120V junction box is on the right side. It is the hardest one to get to. There was nothing wrong with the suburban wiring or installation but the Keystone wiring was.....well..... not good. Every model is going to be different as to the location of the tank.

You probably checked this already, but is it possible the heater was on with no water and burned out the electric element....just saying since I did it ONCE.

Nope we have the charred wiring that caused the problem and it was before the element and the junction boxes.. The element was good as was everything else. We have been here for two months using the tank every day so that it lost water without us knowing it would have been highly improbable.

Got the sliding window latch that failed from Lippert (Kinro) this afternoon. There were no part numbers on the latch so I called Lippert and a nice lady at the Kinro division asked me many questions and ran down the part number. It came UPS free of charge. We are whole once again. Thank you LCI and Kinro.

Wife noticed today that the pedestal on the table is falling apart. Brads have pulled out. Minimal issue we will just hammer them back.

Great post everyone. I believe I have the same problem with my 3402. Only used the camper one time and one night so we used the gas. Now it looks I have a way to check and fix the problem.

Check the 120 V reset and the breaker first.
