HOLDING TANK MANUFACTURER

The holding tank manufacturer for our Montana's is , at least today

Amerkart manufacturing. 171 State road`120, Bristol, Ind
phone 574- 848-7462

I was advised by the service center that they manufacturer the tanks for my 2013 3402 Big sky two of which are leaking.

You need to contact your dealers parts department to get the spec's for your individual year and model.

Rich, are you going to have them braced after you get them fixed? Even though ours aren't leaking, I'm thinking of doing that with some angle iron to prevent them from leaking in the future.

I had a Galley Tank replaced last April and it is leaking again so I phoned our dealer and they are going to see if they can get warranty on it. We only had it full three times since the replacement and it leaked the last two times. We will last the winter until we get home but will have to watch how full it gets.

D&T Rv Repair braced the last two they replaced in the 06 3400. I do not see any support bracing on the galley tank. I have pictures taken at the plant tour this year we will check.

I don't recall any bracing on the plant tour. I recall Mark going on about how they are made to clean out better and drain better and not freeze.

You need to improve the support for the tanks. Mine resently leaked when I accidently over filled it. The leak wasn't from over filling but that the tank had a crack in the top corner. One side of the tank sits on a large I beam /cross brace, the other side sat on a undersized weak ass cross member.
Well this cross member had saged in the middle by at least 3/4" with the tank empty, can't imagine how far it saged when full. This I'm sure put a lot of stress on the corner, which in turn cracked. As far as I'm concerned Keystone should go out and upgrade all these trailers. It is just wrong that they cut every thing to the minimun.

Good luck

Yup, the first factory tour we were on, several years ago, caused me to question the lack of adequate support for the holding tanks. This last tour looked the same as the previous ones. Nothings changed.

After having my galley tank burst and reading all the problems with tanks on our rigs I try to keep my tanks below 1/2 full except if parked where the black tank gets filled before dumping.....

We have never had any of our tanks anywhere near full on either of our Montana's/ maybe 5 gals in the fresh water tank just enough to flush the John when in transit and the others maybe a gallon or two to keep them wet.

Made no difference 5 failed tanks in the 06 3400 and two in this 2013 3402.

I am sure the supplier of tanks for Keystone changes from time to time when the supply is put out to bid. Keep in mind the lowest bidder will be the one supplying the tanks.

I think the problem in some cases may be the tanks themselves, however for the most part I think the problem occurs because they are not properly supported, that points right at Keystone.

Every piece of materiel that can be left out keeps the weight down as well as the cost, hence poor support.

If the need arises, or I ever need to drop the cover off I will add support for the tanks where possible.

This is very troubling. You would think that after all these years of manufacturing, Keystone would have this one figured out. I suppose the problem manifests itself well after the warranty period, in most instances, so Keystone doesn't even get involved and that's a shame.

The first one in the 06 3400 f ailed within the warranty period. The two failures on the 13 3403 failed 17 months after build date. The tanks in the 06 3400 were from a different manufacturer than the 13 3402. the tanks are ABS material tough stuff but they sit on rails and are not supported anywhere else that we can see. Our galley tank was just a small slit at the very bottom of the tank. IMO a defective tank. You might choke if you saw one of these tanks when full of water as they sag then add the pressure on them if they are full of water and travelling down the road.

Both of our tanks defiantly were not leaking when we got to Florida as we filled them several times to flush out the waste hose. They failed while the Rv was sitting stationary for nearly two months. The galley tank defiantly not at the top and the gray tank about half way full. When these guys come out we will have them inspected as we will be doing it in Goshen at D&T repair we will have both Keystone and the tank Manufacture present.

Hi

The holding tanks are a problem for every manufacturer.

I had a friend that purchased a used SOB bumper pull and the fresh water tank failed. He pointed out the same lack of support you all are talking about. The tank was only supported by the flange at the top provided by the manufacturer of the tank. He added straps under the new tank to help support it.

He has since purchased a new SOB bumper pull with one slide. He opened the belly to reinforce the waste and fresh water tanks so he wouldn’t have the same problem. What he found was straps under the tanks in addition to the mounting at the upper flange similar to what he had done to his older trailer.

Some manufacturers do learn from their older trailers.

Is there an After-Market tank supplier of better quality tanks with builtin strength that will fit within the space available including the rubber cupplings? Seems this would be a good seller for After-Market repair supply stores.
