Preventive Maintenance for Graphics

I have ready many posts on many different forums about peeling graphics and their replacement. What I have not found is any suggestions to prevent the peeling from occurring in the first place. Perhaps the topic has been discussed, but I don't find it in the last 90 days. I know we are not supposed to ever use any petroleum distillate on vinyl graphics. Is there a preventive product that works?

Another trial for the 303 here. Applying each spring, only time will tell.

Oh Bingo ... If you truly want to evaluate 303, you're going to have to roll up your sleeves and practice the "wax on wax off" method so methodically used by the Karate Kid. 303's longevity only lasts 1.5 to at most 2 months per application. I push it to the 2 month application with good results... then there's the added benefit of the upper torso of a mythical Greek god.

Thanks, everyone. When using Aerospace 303 is it applied just to the graphics? Or to the gel coat, too.

It's a job, but several of us put it on the whole fiver ... roof and all. Once I started putting it on the roof, it cut down on the oxidation noticably. I will say it's not as easy as wax application ... if you put too much on a given area at a time ... it streaks no matter how much you try to wipe it off. As for the roof ... after a good cleaning, always start at the front of the roof and work your way back ... it does make it a bit slippery up there.

It's a spray on protectant and people claim it will protect about anything. I used it on my bass boat cover as per the guy that made my cover and after 9 months in the Texas sun, I was neither impressed or unimpressed as it faded just like anything else I had used over the years. YMMV Most RV stores sell it, ie; CampingWorld.

My understanding is, with proper care and lots of mautainence, the graphics will last 2 years. Leave them alone, they will last about 24 months.

Amazon had the best price on the 303 when I purchase a gallon two year ago, good stuff for graphics and gel coat.

It has been posted that clear marine varnish may help with peeling graphics. I did buy some but have not applied it yet as I still have a couple of graphics left to replace. Maybe next week as we are going out again this weekend.

It's about the only product for tires/graphics around that has no petroleum products in it...I found mine at a marine store.

I'm just curious on how one would apply marine varnish to their fiver and not be more disappointed above and beyond curling graphics? Was it sprayed on in a climate controlled paint booth ... can you link us to the article or post?

Do not use RV wash that contains wax. Use dish soap like dawn, and do not wax the vinyl. After washing the trailer and after it dries,
rub this into the vinyl graphics:

The post referred to brushing the varnish on around the edge of the graphics to help prevent it from curling. Maybe the author will speak up or you could try doing a search.

Thanks Dick ... I obviously was imagining way too much coverage.

Be careful using Dawn, it will strip whatever coating you have on the RV.
