You do not mention what model Montana you have but there is 1 and sometimes 2 fans on the back of the refrigerator which pull the heat out.
If you have the refrig. in a slide you will probally hear it come on more often because it has to blow the heat out the top vent on the slide. Mine has a top vent in the roof and I have never heard it run as the heat just goes out the top like a chimney and does not build up.
If you have the slide out refrig. you can open the top vent and see the fan and check it.

I have two in our 05 3400. both noisy, I replaced them with two very quiet ones. remove the top vent and look down to see them. be careful, fins and piping get hot when refer on.

We have at least one. Very quiet when it runs. We don't really know when it is on but the fridge works well in all temps, so it must come on.

"mrtgraz", I believe the two vents on the side of the rig are for access and some ventilation and not what most replies are referring to. There does need to be additional air movement to vent away the high heat generated by the fridge when it's cooling the interior. Some fridge units come with this automatically in place, but many others required an aftermarket installation which most RV companies do install. This is what "Awaywego" and others are referring to. The fans will kick on automatically to force this hot air up through a roof vent. There have been stories of these fans NOT being installed or otherwise failing. In your case, the good news is that there sounds like you got one or two.
Like "Camper4" I hardly notice mine, and have not even attempted to confirm I even have one and I imagine the size of the fridge and the mechanics of the fan will determine how loud it's going to be. I have a smaller fridge in a 2006 rig. I can't say what a larger fridge fan would be like. We also have different tolerances for fan noise especially if not all fans are created equal.
"Rollie41" has a great idea and I've heard others have done this.

Mrtgraz,
We have the 12 cf double door freezer/fridge too in our 2012 Monty. If there is a fan in it it is very quiet. If your rig is still under warranty then you should get the dealer to fix it. Good luck. Dennis
