Blowing Rain
On two occasions when a hard blowing rain is on the right side of the rig, water has come out from under the kitchen slid (inside). I checked the top, windows, etc, without finding a problem. I think the rain is blowing in the two vents on the outside of the kitchen slid. I think the vents are for the oven and hot water heater. A normal rain, not blowing hard on the right side, does not result with water coming inside. I tried to check for a problem (bad seals, caulking, etc) in the bottom of the recessed area where the vents are located, but because of all the lines, valves, and such mounted there, could not see anything. Has anyone had such a problem. Tks,

Not knowing what model you have, I have one question.
Is the refrigerator on the same side?

Roger, it would really help if you posted your year and model number in your signature so we can help....
I also see you are in Kerrville, that is where our Spring Rally will be held in late March of next year. Hope to see you there....

Thanks for the feedback. Brenda and I are new to RV'ing and just found out about the Montana Club. Our rig is a 2008 Montana 307RL, FW. We are looking forward to meeting you both in Kerrville next March.

There is a mod that some have done to the refrigerator vent frame. It amounts to making a "gutter" out of angle aluminum and silicone it in to the bottom of the frame, just behind the cover. It catches any water that gets past the vent and channels it back outside. You would think that they should have known to design the bottom of the frame down-sloped toward the outside, instead of flat.

Are the seals around the slides in the proper place ... that is, not tucked under?

Vickie, thanks for the feedback, our rig has been in the rain many times, but the only time we have had water come in under the kitchen slide was when there was a hard driving rain against the right side of the rig, that's way I think the rain is being blown into the vents on that side of the rig. Tks,

As Vicki mentioned, we have the same problem in a blowing rain but only when one or more of the seals are curled under. It drenches the carpet under the cabinets and refrigerator and then water puddles out onto the kitchen floor. When the seals are not curled under, no water gets inside. I have to check the seals every time we extend the slides. About half the time one is curled under. I use the awning rod to correct the situation.

Steve, thanks for your input. I will add "check the seals" to my checklist. One, of the two times when water came in, we were under way in a bad thunderstorm with hard blowing rain, so it could be my problem is a seal curled under.

We have a 2980RL. When it rains fron the kitchen side water comes in the exhaust vent from the micro-wave and overhead vent for the stove. I resealed the vent and it still leaked. The only way I got it stop was to put a piece of plastic over the vent. The water comes in the vent and runs down on the counter around the stove. I even shut the door on the vent, and the water still comes in. I will have it looked at, at Rally time. I think the vent needs to be redesigned. Have a good Day

Check my post in This Thread It's about the 4th one down.
Check the screws that hold down the frame to the vent. If you see any rust on them when you pull them out, you have a leak. It's also possible to be leaking under that vent frame. The fix is simple, and fairly permanent.

Click Here for link to thread.
I thought that there was a previous thread that had better info, but could not find it. Maybe it is archived or something. But this should give you the general idea. If I do this mod, I will use an angle aluminum that extends further toward the back of the enclosure though.
