valve stems

Has anybody replaced the high pressure valve stems with the metal screw in type stems. I had a valve stem fail ( high pressure, rubber / metal).

I had all my valve stems replaced when I had the wheels balanced.

The "screw in type stems" you are referring to are called clamp in and are the best type to use. Some have the hex nut on the outside of the wheel and some have the hex nut on the inside of the wheel. Steel wheels will accept either kind, but SOME alloy wheels will only accept the ones with the nut on the inside of the wheel. You may have to special order the stems.
The type you are now using are called snap in and aren't the best in the west, but are the most commonly used high pressure stem.

Yes replaced them early on as they all leaked. Again more good advise from this forum.

Here is a post on the valve stems I used. Note these have the nut on the inside of the rim. Also you must have the proper rubber insert to match the rim hole size.
I hope this helps.

Because of issues others had with the rubber ones on this forum we changed ours out with the metal and haven't looked back. Better safe than sorry.

Are the wheels on the 2008 3400's steel or alloy? Or Lonnie and others know what steel stems are used on this model Montana when changing from the rubber ones?

Rubber snap-in are only rated for 60# and should not be used in higher pressure wheels. Metal Clamp-in is what you want.
